Anything going on at Newport? The wife and I will be staying at Sawyer's Landing Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. That's the good news, the bad news is I'm towing a car and not a boat. Thought I might try and go out on a 6-man charter Tuesday or Wednesday, any recommendations? Doing anything off the South Jetty? Any information will be appreciated.

Crab king, I would look into the charter operation at South Beach Marina and try to get a spot on the Irish or the Umatilla II. I've fished very sucessfully with those guys twice, plus one day we were skunked but they gave us a voucher, and when we came back, they totally honored it and we easily limited. If I were to fish the jetty I would try to go at night on an incoming tide armed with small black crappie jigs, and fish them as slow as possible. Thats what worked 2 weekends ago, and pretty well, I thought.

I was in newport sunday 6/10, There were alot of guys out crabbing. I didnt talk o anyone to see if they were doing any good.
Sawyers rents boats. I would look into renting one and chasing some perch.
As for fishing the south jettty. You can always find something out there thats willing to play. I personally like fishing out there at night. Sandshrimp will take almost anything that swims around the rocks. If you want to fish plastics, I reccomed some 3" Kalins grubs in Pumpkin seed s/p.

Thanks Uncle Roman and Willerower. Sounds like the South Jetty at night is the best bet. I'll check out the South Beach Charters also.
