Shad at The Dalles

I will be heading by the Dalles dam today, on the Washington side, just wondering if anyone has fished for Shad below the dam there, and if they have where at, and how did they do it. I have never caught one of these strange little fish,(strange to me). I figured I would just drift fish a crappie jig with pencil led, I have some red and yellow ones, think this will work. If not oh, well its still fishing, and it is cheaper than losing spinners.
