Been trying to figure out how to outnumber the North River thread...so let's try this. All folks that are are lurking and posting here...sign in with a post here saying what you like about Ifish, and how long you've been here. Let's see how many of us are here in a roundabout way. Myself...I discovered Ifish. about January of this year...and my favorite place to go here is the Bulletin Board. I'm hoping to cross paths with as many of you as I can, and have met a few of you...but there's alot more I'm hoping to hook up with (no pun intended) in the future. So...check in here when you read this post!! Thanx folks!!! images/icons/smile.gif Please be honest...only one reply please!!

I found the board back in March. Got the url the one and only time I saw the Hot Tamale outdoor show. RT kept mentioning it, he and the tamale guy (cant remember his name) were fishing on the Sandy with Jack Glass. I like the Forum

I dont know how long ago I found it but it wasn't long after its inception. but this seems to be the most friendly forum around. I like reading jennies front page eloquence and the BB.

I heard about ifish last year while fishing for upriver brights. I lurked until December I think before I registered.
I like the technical info that's posted here about fishing techniques, boat and motor info, political info that affects our fishing, meeting new people as well as the events that help the resource or help people who can't fish themselves for one reason or another. I've met 3 or 4 people that post here, and hope to meet more in the future.
What I don't like is the BS whining, censoring of posts, and the fact that if a river is in the Portland area or the "Valley" it's encouraged to post fishing reports, but if it's a coastal river you barely hear a word. (my email addy is in my profile)

Since conception of ifish, 3 1/2 years ago, I have come here to write my journal, share fishing info on the BB, and meet other fishing friends.
The hits have consistently doubled each year since I started it, with very little variance as to what has gone on. (People do tend to hit the threads where soap opera behaviour is displayed.)
What I like about it, are the friends I have made and the things I have learned. The community and family feel of those that I have become very close to.
What I don't like about it, is when it goes way off topic, or when people set out to challenge the rules, or blatantly try to cause trouble.
Luckily, there are only a handful of people that seem to have the time or inclination to do that.
It is very difficult sometimes, as people sometimes don't know the whole story and they jump to conclusions about people and things.
It is interesting, because people post whatever, knowing they are anon, and I form an opinion of them. Then they e mail me and a whole different person shows up. So I have a new opinion of them! So confusing!
Other than the select few who need a real life, I think we have the finest group of people around, and I am very proud to be a member.

Found ifish in November, but it took until January for me to find out about the BB. I registered right away and have loved it ever since. Great people and great tips. I'm glad to have met lots of you like Aye fsh, FishinMission, RT, kwiky, chuck n duck and Chnookie through here. It's also the place where we started up the OSU fishing club. Very entertaining. All I can say is that I love it. Finally, other people who understand how I can spend all my time fishing and still not catch anything. images/icons/wink.gif

Was introduced to the group a few months ago by a fishing partner and have enjoyed it immensely. What I find intriguing is the power of the BB to keep fishermen up-to-date on conditions, the bite in various areas and other info. Have met some nice folks and hope to meet many more. It's kinda hard to get mad at a d***** Oregon fisherman when you've been talking with him on Ifish regularly. In that way I think it has helped to bring all of us together.

I've been a registered member since arly December 2000. I like the bullitin board and have met some great fellow fisherpeople. I've fished with a number of ifishers todate and all have been good people who share our interest, Salmon and Steelhead fishing. Jen's column is mostly interesting and she writes very well. I like the fishing posts, it's nice to know some people can catch fish(Fishgal) in your favorite river. The down side would be the negative posts, the members who react wildly over things and those who can't respect the rules of the board, the ones who complain when they get edited for not complying. I like the river level links that enable you to check the most recent level before you go hit the river. The posts about new gear and fishing things are great too. Can't say i'm to interested in the ongoing sled posts, but there are a few posts that are informative about repairs and so on.
Most of all I like the great bunch of people we have together here. It's agreat bunch of people united in their interest. Chats a good thing too.

I have been a reader, mostly, for a long while. I do not even remember the first time I ran across it. I do remember emailing Jennie and getting a fast reply and then loging on to the site. I read it nearly every day and I even post replies once in a while.
I keep lookin for Fishin Mission's boat and I am going to someday waylay him when he comes to my neighborhood store so I can shake his hand in person. images/icons/wink.gif images/icons/wink.gif

I think it has been at least a couple of years.
What I like best is the bb, Jens column and the chance to meet and fish with fellow board contributors. Matt, Dan and John to mention a few. I have learned a great deal about fishing our common back yard and I am grateful.
I keep missing the bbq and camping get togethers. Looking forward to getting to one someday.
This community is full of quality folks. I wish that the lurkers would warm up and post. Kind of like waiting for the next run of fish. I know they have good info to contribute.
Can't stand the crybaby, he said she said crap. Grow up or take it outside.
Thanks Jen for everything you have done to make this community (Ifish) what it is today.
Good topic FM. Hope it gets the ball rolling. By the way, lets go fishing sometime images/icons/wink.gif.

I found the board sometime last summer and began posting in August mainly because I wanted to share what I had learned. I also love how the board is an outlet for me because I don't fish as much as I used too. With a career, 3 young boys (school, sports, functions, etc...) and all the honey-do's, finding time is difficult. So you all help me stay "connected" to the sport I love.
As far as what I don't like about the board.....I like most everything, I'm pretty good as finding the entertainment value in most anything. images/icons/smile.gif

Been around since pretty near the beginning on the old BB, lurked for a while, posted a few, lurked some more. Great information about almost anything a person could possibly think of fish-related (and some not). Enjoy the political discussions. Get a little tired of the soap operas, but that's the nice thing about this BB format, just don't have to click on the ones you don't want to see.

I guess I'll be one of the first "lurkers" to come out of the box on this thread images/icons/rolleyes.gif. I've been following Ifish for quite some time, and have fished the greater Portland area for the last 10 years or so.
I've enjoyed the BB, Jennie's column, and many of the guide's reports. Without a doubt, I have found Ifish to be the best web-based fishing resource I have found (thank you Jennie for your enormous contribution to NW fisherpeople).
I don't consider myself to be an expert at any one fishing method, although I have enjoyed my share of fishing success over the last six to seven years. I'm primarily a steelhead fisherman and enjoy various drift fishing techniques to take a majority of my fish. I'm all about team work when in the same boat and frown on competitive attitudes.
One of my fishing mentors is an active board member who is extremely knowledgeable about most all things related to fishing in the NW (thanks WVP). He's fished with many of your members/moderators throughout the past year and I wouldn't have half the knowledge/experience if it wasn't for him. We still enjoy fishing together frequently, discussing various techniques that seem to be working well, as well as some of the BB news that deserves discussion.
I guess that's about all I have to say at this point. I'll try to contribute as I see fit and as long as it stays a positive experience. I vow to stay away from the threads that detract from Ifish's positive image (after all, boat talk is just that).

I don't remember exactly the date but,I found this while reading bob's board, saw a posting by RT with the ifish address and came over to find out what this was all about.I liked what I read every one was friendly and lots of good info was being given out.I got tired of all the argueing going on on the other board and never really ever went back.I do go and read there once in awhile to see whats going on but thats about it.I'm really addicted to this board.

Howdy all,
I must had been lurking at about December of the wonderful year of 2000. Starting posting and asking questions near that on how and where to catch a fish and what to use etc., etc., etc. I can say I had learned how to catch fish and what gear is good and bad. I have got to meet a couple of Ifish people and hope I get to meet more of ya in the near future.
With this many people on one board it is unfortunate that we will have conflicts of interest and I want everyone one to know my thoughts are not your thoughts and cannot borrow them with out my written permission. My thoughts are not always right but they are still mine. images/icons/tongue.gif
This is still one of the best BB's I have read and participated and I have seen a lot of them. You will have "Soaps", You will have "Flames", You will have conflicts of "Interests". But best of all, you get the best people who want to HELP each other with a Giving heart and that's what makes this a great BB!

I honestly don't remember when I first discovered this board, but I wish it had been sooner. For rookies (and I suppose for veterans alike), this is by far the best resource available.
I just hope that the latest rash of negativity ends soon. When we're a guest in someone else's house, as we are here, we are obligated to play by their rules. If we don't like, we're free to leave anytime.
Anyway, I'm glad to be here.

A friend told me about ifish in February or March, which happened to be the beginning of the springer run on the Columbia. Just registered a couple weeks ago. I am really impressed with all the information people are willing to share. Not necessarily secret spots but how to rig up, depth of water, etc. We even managed to catch a few springers on my boat. images/icons/smile.gif I enjoy ifish because its people who enjoy fishing as much as I do, talking about fishing. Hope I can eventually contribute some good info. I love this place!!!

I first learned about the site last year while on a sturgeon fishing trip to Astoria with the SLUTGODDESS (who is a fellow club member of WWB and a friend), and RT. I stayed on the sidelines (just reading) for several months before actually registering with I fish. I still continue to read much more than I post, however I do read most of the posts on a daily basis and do really enjoy them.
While I am at it I would like to thank FishinMission for showing me how to fish for the Coho on the Willamette last summer (if you know what I mean). I can't believe more people didn't pick up on it.
Anyway this is a great site and discussion board, and enjoy being a part of it.

I learned of ifish from HOGTIDE while in Geography class. He was teaching us about fishing instead of Geography images/icons/wink.gif
I really like the site and read it often. What I dont like is there are certian people who still act like there 2 years old. Grow up and quit whining sheesh images/icons/rolleyes.gif

I first logged into this site last fall.I accidently stumbled into it on some search engine. Glad I did.
I pretty much like everything about Ifish.I appreciate the feeling Jen puts into her columns, the up-to-date reports(good and bad),and the great advice on baits, colors, and techniques.
Although I don't post much, I read it at least every other day.

I think I started lurking in Oct. 2000. I heard about the board through an old friend and I enjoy reading the humourous and informative posts...but I can't say I really have alot of things to post about. I like to fish, I hate to work. I want to catch more fish, so I read all resources I can find. I'd like to thank ifish for being the other reasonable use of the internet..........

I found the board about two and a half years ago. One of the early members. I like the board for the information. I have truly caught more fish since coming to this board of professionals. I have met a lot of people that I have had out fishing and some that will be life long friends. I still have some people that I want very much to meet on this board and hope to have the oppurtunity to do that in the future.
Well, based on what everybody else has said it must be about 3 years?? Heck I don't know but I have a low number...good thing its not the draft!!! images/icons/shocked.gif Two things that I have most enjoyed: The open conversations about what to use, how and when. Secondly but not necessarily second is the fact that my boys and I can read this
together...the job of moderator is tough, and the stand for "clean" "family" board I think has been tougher. So thank you jen, and moderators past and present.

Probably been enjoying the board and site for a couple of years or so. Don't post very often as I'm spending most of my time working rather than fishin'. Hope to change that in the next couple of years. Jen's column and the board are my favorites. I check the site at least once a day if I'm around and suffer withdrawal symptoms if I'm not. Keep up the good work, all!

Been here since May, 2000 (but have been gone for last 4 months) and I appreciate the fishing knowledge shared among members. I started on here in march I believe after being told about the site by an old fishing buddy, Pilar. Not that Pilar is that old. old fishermen never die, they just smell that way.
Anyway I have really enjoyed this bb. I have learned to catch springers and shad for the first time this year from these posts.
I can't thank you all enough for that. This is a great post. I come here more than anywhere else on the net.
Keep it comming.

Think I have been posting since about September of last year. The part of this board that is appealing to me, is that it is an opportunity to get a feel for what is going on in the minds and experiences of other fishermen. You see so many friendly folks out on the river, but usually your only interaction is a smile and a wave from boat to boat.
Had the opportunity to meet several ifish members. It is nice to see the faces behind the monikers. More than a little dissappointed to find out that ****** was NOT a buxom blond that fishes in a string bikini.
Lotsa different kinds of people posting here. I have found that frequently there is wisdom in just clicking on to another thread.

I think this is a wonderful place to share information. I have my name on the back of my boat which is" CAGEY" so look for me and all the rest of you when you post your reply why dont you tell us what the name is on your boat also. That way we can make a list and have it in our boat and will know you when we see you. images/icons/grin.gif

I like I fish because of the knoledge base of the people here. It was the the reports on the spring chinook fishery that inspired me to go out and try it.
even though it will cut into fall steelheading i think i will try more plunking for salmon this fall.

Once upon a time, I was searching the net and looking for current regional fishing reports and usually came up emtpy. Then I found Jennie and IFish and felt right at home. You might say the rest is history. I bookmarked the site right away and became a loyal follower. That was several years ago before IFish even had a discussion board.
IFish allows me to fish even when I'm not on the water. Virtual fishing from the easy chair allows me to stay current and share experiences with fellow fisher people. What more could a person want......except a 40 pounder dancing on the rod, of course.
I'd like to meet more fellow IFishers and look forward to seeing you on the water. There are some great people here and it's really nice to talk and share fishing stories. Matter of fact, it'd be nice to read a few more stories. You don't have to provide the rock your standing on, just post about your recent trip and share your adventures.
Good luck to everyone,

I can't really remember when exactly I got onto iFish, but it's been a great board and I've "met" a lot of folks. Super tips, techniques, and quite a bit of comedy is wrapped up in these pages. Those are the things I enjoy most out of this.
I haven't been around too much lately, just seems like I've been swamped this year with things to do and get done, but it's nice to see the board is doing as well (better) than ever and most of the names I still recognize.

I just love this board! The stuff I have learned here.
I joined back in Aug 2000 and lurked for a year before that. I kept hearing from the Trabosh brothers about all the hot tips. Then one day I was checking out the chat about GPS and buoy 10.
There were guys buying a GPS and talking about 'onward through the fog' for their first trip. Yee ha! Lets follow the charter boat into the Ocean in the fog.
I registered and posted on that thread.

I've been reading and posting on this board for quite some time. Being a Steelhead nut, I just love to read about fishing and learning from other experienced fisherpeople. I know if I have a question that pertains to fishing, I can usually find someone who will devulge some information that is helpful and that is the main reason why most of us come here...to talk about fishing. We are all fortunate that we have such an opportunity to fish for some of the best game fish in the world...right here in our backyard. To be able to share information and help other people out is what makes this board what it is. It's a good thing that we have this board. Thank you Jennie.

I joined up last fall after The Rogue clued me in on the board. I have really enjoyed all the reports and since I enjoy hearing a good fish story as much as telling one, this is a great place to visit. It's also hard to find someone who understands our need to go chase a cold, slimy creature in the middle of a driving rainstorm on your anniversary. This place has those people. Thanks, Jen for providing this place.

I literally stumbled upon IFish last fall. I really enjoy posting fishing questions as I am not that experienced fishing on the N. Coast. I always receive in-depth answers to my posts.
I really enjoy the 'educated' posts regarding both fishing techniques and issues that pertain to sport fishermen. This is a great site and is part of my daily routine!

Like most everyone else, I don't recall exactly when or how I came to be on this site. What I do remember is being moved nearly to tears at some of the stuff Jennie was posting on her front page. I remember her describing a simple scene of nature that had obviously affected her by it's beauty and she was so eloquent about how it filled her with a sense of awe and wonder, it reminded me of so many of the amazing things I have seen and experienced. I remember thinking, "my God, there is somebody else that gets it". It is not about the catch or the kill for me as much as it is about the experience, and Jennie's writing seemed to reflect that sentiment. I am not able to express that sentiment adequately myself and I was so very impressed that here was this woman, who fishes, pouring her soul out onto a web page for us poor dumb cavemen to see. I identified with what she was saying and just kept coming back for more.
I had not been involved with any other bulletin boards prior to this one and was very apprehensive about getting involved, but I liked the sentiment that Jennie was portraying so I jumped in. That was obviously in may of 2000. I was amazed to find that there was a great big bunch of people talking and laughing and sharing exactly the same things that I love so much in my life. Up until I began reading the posts here I was pretty much on my own with my small group of fishing fanatic friends trying to figure out where, when and how to fish. I have learned a great deal from all of you here and I am extremely grateful to those who posted helpful, positive information and to Jennie for being the driving force behind this idea of a community of like minded souls sharing. I find it unfortunate that some have come here and degraded this idea. You need to stop it. I miss the fishing reports and tech info that used to predominate, and intend to do my part to contribute back now that the knowledge and friends I have gained here are helping me to have these incredible fishing experiences. I firmly believe that fishing will keep you sane and well adjusted, as well as keep you from getting stupid, so go fish and come back here and tell us all about your experience.

I've been here since last fall after spending a week in Cannon Beach with a friend fishing Astoria and he mentioned this site. Being a web nut I thought I'd check it out. Been coming here every day since.
I thoroughly enjoy the tips and techniques shared on this board and will post if I feel I have something to add to a discussion. I tend to stay away from the negative posts since I see enough negative crap at work and I really don't want to see it here.
I also enjoy humour in my posts and try to inject a little with every post I make(at least what passes for humour in my pea brain)
I think the moderators do a great and difficult job at trying to stay true to Jennies's vision so here's a tip of the cap to them, past and present. Thanks for having a good, friendly place to come to. images/icons/smile.gif

I found ifish when reading an article in the Oregonian about Jennie. Didnt take long to get registered and involved. Been over a year now, hanging out cyber style with other fishing nuts. I have learned a ton and had a great time along the way.
I have really enjoyed getting to know some great people. The more people I get to know the more I know about what really happens on the board behind the scenes. I really hate the politics of the soap opera that happens here on ifish. I guess I have to take the bad with the good. I havent figured out how to install and run the crap filter yet. A few insecure childish people saying stupid things just for the fact of hearing themselves talk. I dont know why people do that, maybe there momma didnt breast feed them long enough, images/icons/confused.gif I hope they can grow up and act like an adult some day, or go somewhere else and whine.
This is a great place to release some job stress, I hope it stays that way.

I discovered this site last fall while doing a general search on the internet. I am a "weekend warrior" of necessity as I do the standard Mon. to Fri. work gig. This site is great and I am truely grateful for all that Jennie has put into this site. She has built up a great community here, and like any good community you need something to shake it up every once in a while or else you get complacent.
I sometimes jump the gun and post something that I wish I could take back, but I hope that I can contribute as much as I take from this site. Keep up the good work Jennie, and don't let a few hot heads out there get you down.

been logging on for almost 2 years.
What i like best:
- fishing reports, how to information and technique tips, gear info sharing.
- Good community for those interested in Or/Wa fishing in general
- I like what Jenny, our members, and moderators have done here
thank you all

I'm an Oregonian living in Kansas who found this web site through the article about Jennie in the Oregonian last May.
I check the site just about every day and enjoy the fishing stories and pictures that remind me of home. I also appreciate all the advice on equipment and techniques that people post which I often print out for future reference or use when I go home for my annual fishing trip. Looks like Ocean salmon fishing this year in July and I'm stoked.
I don't post much, since most of you probably don't need my advice about good places to fly fish for bass or catch the big catfish, which is about all the fishing there is here.

Same for me. The bio of Jen made me seek out this local Forum, and what a great one it is.
images/icons/wink.gif
I found Ifish while searching for current, timely fishing information. Newspapers and magazines tend to be dated and don't cover very many areas ... calling all over the place takes too much time and a fortune in phone bills. This forum was what I was looking for. Fishers sharing info with fishers ... the bonus has been meeting a lot of great folks and making a few close friendships.

Started reading in January of this year on the advise of a buddy in Renton. We're both crane operators at Boeing and avid lake fisherman. The allure of big fish is making river and salt water more appealing however. We both run Lund boats, Pro v's, and love them to death.Anyway, what a better place to gain knowledge on unfamiliar waters. It's also fun to share stories of fishing success with others. It seems that everyone on the board has something to share that will benefit another.Who knows, maybe the guy that told me about i-fish will get registered one day? What do you say Sam? images/icons/wink.gif
I too, found out about Ifish from RT over at PiscatorialPursuits.
I always appreciate the information and tips you find, if you read carefully enough.
Thanks To All

I dicovered the board at the end of last year and promptly gave up on the other site I regularly read (Oregonlive) because it had basicaly nothing to offer. After growing up in Portland and spending all the time possible chasing steelhead and trout around there and around Tillamook, it's nice to hear what's going on even though I don't get to participate as much any more, living in Central Oregon. Still do make the occasional trip over the mountains, but it's a lot easier and just as enjoyable to flyfish for redsides on the Deschutes without anyone else around (except during the salmonfly hatch) or to catch a bunch of hard-fighting smallmouths on the John Day (you think springers fight hard, try fighting a 20" smallmouth). If only my boss knew how much time I spend following the ifish soap opera, who knows what would happen. I'll be looking for all the ifish boat decals this fall at Bouy 10.

I, too, were one of the many that found ifish through a web search for fishing reports: both bass and anadromous.
I frequent this site as well as Bob's and I've had the blessing of making many great friends, whom I fish with regularly, through this board and Bob's. As with any open forum: the many ideas, perspectives, and people are worth sticking around for, even if they don't get along with you or don't like you. images/icons/tongue.gif
I've met several of you Oregonians, and all of the Oly crackers. Hopefully I can meet all, but with the way this site is growing, I think that will be an impossible task, but worth the effort. Keep up the good work Jen, and moderators alike.
What I like?
The extended family aspect I get from the site.
The projects seen on ifish for kids.
The fast access to posts; some servers are slow or don't operate in a timely fashion. images/icons/rolleyes.gif
The fishing reports
The jokes images/icons/cool.gif
and many more things that I've left out. images/icons/smile.gif
Dislikes?
Ego trips, goody-two shoes, and skunky beer. And how someone can be crucified for posting a dissenting opinion, reply, or post. How the sponsor's opinion outweighs those that actually USE the website. And people who can't email the person who they are specifically angered or disgruntled by, instead of having to drag mods and the owner in. The likes outweigh the dislikes, after all, it is fishing.

OK North River Boats thread here we come...
I was doing a search on the web through Excite when I found Ifish. I can't remember what it was I was looking for, but as soon as I found this site I forgot because I was thinking to myself "THIS IS THE BEST FISHING WEBSITE IN THE WORLD!!"
Since then I have been so addicted to this website, I want to go and check the threads every night before bed, and EVERY morning before fishing. I am on here at least 2-5 times an hour while at work (work permitting, wait, can't call it work if i'm surfin the ifish website!) images/icons/grin.gif
Anyway, Jennie, keep doin what your doin and don't let ANYONE tell you to do it differently. This website IS what it IS because of YOU. Keep up the awesome work, and we'll be here to support ifish to the last keystroke.

Thanks much for the jig ideas which translated into much fun on the Washougal this spring. And I just got back from tangling with Paulina lake kokes--the tips made the trip!!! Billy

This site IS what it IS because of the efforts of MANY people, including but not limited to, Jen. I think everyone involved with the operation AND content of this site has done quite an admiral job. It's a veritable cornucopia of information, and a great place to meet people, hear stories, read about (and sometimes participate in) the soap operas when you can't fish yourself. I used to Jones something fierce for fishing when I was unable to go, but now I can read about everybody's adventures and it takes the edge off.
Let's not forget that in addition to Jen's hard work (and our moderators, too) it's the INFO on this site that makes it worthwhile. I used to visit NWFishing frequently, but it's forum is an unmoderated trash heap and their info is updated about 4 times a year. This forum is good because it hasn't degenerated into a bashfest, and guys are willing to give out info in a way that was unheard of in the days before the internet. Now a biginner can get good, quality info that used to take YEARS to amass. THAT info has been provided by a large number of people, some of whom have been getting way too much heat, and way too little slack. Egg cures, plug and spinner choices, and presentation techniques are all things that were closely guarded by some guys, and still are. The fact that people are willing to share this info says something about them. It says that they love the sport of fishing, and want everybody to enjoy the thrill of catching fish. Political, religious, and censorship issues aside, this board owes a great deal to the people that provide the content we all come here to see.
Thanks Jen, RT, 'stew, and EVERYONE else for making this one of the premier fishing sites on the web. images/icons/smile.gif
The only negitive feedback I have is to those that offer content only when they are criticizing somebody. Posters with 2 or 3 posts who feel the need to badmouth active members who spend the time to type out answers to questions and give info are the ones that really bug me. I can live with disagreements and ******* matches between members, because that is what happens when a few hundred people interact. We're all grown up enough to not hold grudges (I hope! images/icons/smile.gif )
All in all, this is a terrific site. Be proud Jen, many have failed where you are succeeding. And thanks to everbody else who does their little part so that the whole of this site is better because of it. images/icons/grin.gif

I was told about this site by another iFisher (dgass) and registered and started posting right away. Since then I've caught my first springer via tips from everyone as well as my first sturgeon ever(an 86" bruiser) on a trip with another iFisher (Dan!). Next will probably be another try at my first steelhead using more tips I've found here. Thanks everyone for the great responses to my posts as well as everyone elses. You've all made my fishing experiences here a lot more productive and a lot more satisfying. Thanks for everything.

I've been around for a long time too. I used to post often. Then I was harrassed for the detailed reports I had given. A few of the fishers who lurk here would rather keep all the information about what's going on, to themselves. Unless, of course, it brings a little glory to themselves. I've stopped posting but still lurk on a regular basis. I may come back to posting on a regular basis but will remain on the sidelines unless something really inspires me to get back into posting.

I also learned about the site from the one & only SLUTGODDESS. I have fished with him a few times & it is always a joy. I read the board almost every day and have found it quite interesting. Been registered since about a year ago.
Best part of this bb is when we share the latest happenings on fisheries like Multnomah Channel or the nearby Columbia.
The friendly (mostly) exchange of information really gives you valuable 'beta' and is a real assist to figuring things out so that in addition to fishing you may occasionally enjoy some catching!

I found the site last fall while looking for oregon bass fishing reports. Because there are next to no bass fishing reports on the web about Oregon, Ifish came up in the search. I logged on to the bulliten board and was amazed at the information that was shared. I registered and have learned soo much. It keeps my wheels turning, and presses me to try out new fisheries and refine my tech's. What a great resource we have at our fingertips!!! Thanks Jen for making this possible for us. I've learned more in 6 months here than 10 years of trial and error on my own.
Thanks again!

I enjoy the people and the different points of views they express. Some of the responses get blown out of proportion, but that is to be expected with a participating group this large. I have fished with RT a couple times, he is a interesting fella images/icons/tongue.gif. Absolutely love the way Jen puts her heart and sole into her detailed writing work. The joy she sees in little things with things such as the fishing cat, hummingbirds, call of the fish and other twisted perpectives. I find this a great resource for my creative fishing side with people sharing their ideas. Some really great people who are willing to help others learn or find great stuff (Thanks again Bev and Dot images/icons/smile.gif. I even like the redneck humor. One of these days I will make it to a ifish function to meet these folks I spend so much time with. Still lots of stuff to learn, see and share.

Well its been just a short time for me but I know I have told every body I know about it. I like the discussion board, I find it very useful to sort through all of those "inflated" fishing stories I have heard in the past. You dont know how many times I went somewhere it was "Red Hot" and found yea it was 104f but the fishing was dead there for weeks. Now I just log on and see the posts all you fine outdoors people put up for us all. If the story can be verified I am there if not well I hang out with my two daughters. It is a great place to get information out there about do and dont issues.

I found the site through a link somewhere and have been a poster/lurker ever since. I enjoy the specific information related to OR/WA fishing and have always recieved good advice in answer to any questions I have posted. The banter, until it deteriorates into personal attacks, is funny. I think BOE nails that pretty well in his comments.
Jen seems to be on the right track in her attempts to maintain a certain level of decorum - not too much and not too little - a hard line to walk.
One thing that always surprises me is how often seemingly innocuous statements are taken as personal attacks and reacted to in kind. Maybe it's my age or the fact that I have a type B personality, but I'm always left wishing that people would lighten up.
See you on the river.
Crusty, who leaves you with this quote from Jack Handey:

A friend (Pete) told me to check out the site. I started lurking last fall and finally registered last December. So I have been around long enough to have a post on page one of the infamous North River thread. Now I stop by half a dozen times a day. I can’t help myself. This site has been a tremendous resource. Prior to joining this board, our fishing had been limited to the sneaking out to Hagg Lake, some steelheading on the Wilson, a bit of jetty fishing on Nehalem Bay, and tossing bugs over on the Deschutes. Since joining, we purchased a new North River and now get out fishing almost every weekend. This was our first springer season and now we are chasing sturgeon every chance we get.
Thanks Jennie for putting this all together and thanks to all of you who participate by sharing knowledge and a part of yourself with everyone.

I've been on this board for a little over a year. A friend (Sailcat) steered me here after I asked if there were any good fishin' BB's around. Definatly the best source of fishing info for OR and SW WA. I'm amazed at the willingness to share info and I think that is one thing that makes this a great site. images/icons/grin.gif
I have met a handful of the members here and look forward to meeting more. Get those stickers on your boats!
As a few others have said the only downside is the seemingly bi-weekly/monthly soap oprea's that come up. images/icons/rolleyes.gif But, that doesnt keep me from hitting the site more than I care to admit during the day. images/icons/smile.gif

I probably represent the type of member mentioned in the initial post....Lurking and learning....I would post more but just started steelhead and salmon fishing last year...sometimes it's better to keep quiet and let folks think you're a fool than to open your mouth(or keyboard) and remove all doubt.
Anyhoodle, thanks to the generous info provided here and on Bob's board, I bagged my first fish last year and helped a friend bag his first last week.
I must say that one of the most impressive topics was the one regarding great guitarists, I really didn't expect the diversity and obscurity of the great guitarists mentioned (Al DiMeola? Awesome!)
I would very much like to meet and fish with some of the regular posters that I've learned so much from...anyone who wants to fish the Sky or Snoqualmie on weekends, Email dkosto99@hotmail and I'll buy the shrimp (or beer).
Most importantly, thanks to Jen for taking on such a demanding job(part public administrator, part businessperson, mostly pre-school nanny)
This board is truly a community.

I think I read an article in the Oregonian about Jenny and logged on. I've been enjoying this site since November of 2000 and usually check it daily. The fishing information and knowledge of fellow members has been great. Went on Floatilla II and met in person some of the Ifishers. Nice people. Look forward to doing more of the group fishing outings.

I found Jennie’s page from a friend who email and told me to check out this page because there was a lady who was more fish crazed than all the fish heads he knew.
After reading her posts a few time I realized that she could articulate exactly the passion I had for fishing; all of it, the fish, the outdoors, and the anticipation.
I lurked for a while even after I found the BB. Several months ago I decided to register and add my $0.02 when able. It is a great place to be.

I was on the old board from about November of 1999, and then on this board. I found the board while searching on the internet for fishing information. I like the way people are ready to help others with their fishing with techniques, destinations, timing, and encouragement. I know that when I left the state last summer, Ifish really helped keep me connected. I like reading Jenny's column. I like the links to other resources. I especially like the way that other members jump in to help others who need help with their fishing. I appreciate the moderators dealing with the riffraff. It's a difficult, thankless job, but I want to say thank you for keeping things civilized.
Jennie, you have done an outstanding job here. Sometimes a bozo will do what bozos do, and rip on you unjustifiably. You have a lot of love to give, but with the giving of love comes risk. There is always the risk that your love will be rejected, or abused. The alternative, though, is not to love, and that is unthinkable.

Well the reasons for going to this board are simple. 1.Marie at the worlds best bait store turned me on to this board. I kept contacting her for fishing reports and she told me that I should check this board out. It's the first board I ever went to and it now seems to be my home. 2. It seems like I've been here about a year but when I checked my login I've been here since October of last year. 3. My favorite thing about this board is....All the nice people I have got to know. How many places are there where you get together with total strangers and go fishing? Not to many!! My first chance was at the Floatilla 2. I got to meet all kinds of FISHHEADS like myself and got to see the faces that are behind all the good humor that goes on here. images/icons/grin.gif I still get good tips and good advise from here and that kind of makes it all worth while to me. images/icons/grin.gif See you on the water..............Fishhead Vic images/icons/grin.gif

I was waiting to put up the 100th post - of likely 500? images/icons/smile.gif ...
I can't remember how I stumbled onto ifish. It was over 2700 posts ago; plus a few hundred on the old DB. I seem to recall I was using a search feature and found a few NW fishing sites. This one was closest to home so I started reading Jen's good column; for interest and reports. There was also a discussion board in it's early stages getting some interesting posts. The two guys that stand out in my memory from back at the start are still here - Joe (Salmonator) and Gregg (Hookset). I also remember that the old DB didn't require registration and anyone could post anything using a different name or moniker each time, if they chose. If you think some of the posts here now are inflamatory you should have seen some of 'em back then! Whew! It seems that about a third of them were nasty arguments. Many were constantly asking for those types to stop it. But they didn't. And remember the backlash of the first donation drive? Yikes! ...
Nowdays there are registrations and moderators - and it shows. Much better than the old days here, and at Bob's and Marty's BB's now too; while several other current flaming fishing BB's continue toward ashes. While there is inevitable flareups here, you must recall how it used to be and how it is on these many other sites (not just fishing sites either - all sports sites) to really appreciate how far things have come to the better on ifish. And the heated subjects now seem to disipate and are forgotten reasonbly quickly too. The differences of BB philosophy between Jen and I caused a lot of hard feelings that spilled onto the pages of the BB. For that, I am sorry to Jen and that you members had to endure, and for the part I played in that. It's history now. As many have said, better to keep such matters to e-mail, and hope they remain confidential, and I have optimism that more members will do so in the future. Of course, if any of you become fresh roadkill being picked on by crows I understand defending yourselves - hopefully with more civility from now on though (besides, the crows are becoming an endagered species here). When I get run over I am going to count to 10 ,,,,,,,,,, and then blast back anyway images/icons/grin.gif , naah - jk. I will try to use the smilies more instead of heated words. I first came here after finally finding peace and a conquered bad temper. Along the way I slowly reverted back to a short fuse with all the crap a moderator has to go thru. Wish I handled it better, but I keep on learning about life, as we all do. I'm on my way back the other direction again - got a ways to travel yet. My $0.02 worth on that. ...
As for the growth of this BB, it is beyond what I imagined when I first got involved. It has become it's own perpetual growth machine because of all the knowledgable and fun members. In the early stages a tone of sharing info and having fun was set, and that's what sets this BB apart. The members here are much more interactive than any of the other BBs. Jen is to be commended for such a nice job of keeping technical pace with such a big crew! Thanks Jennie. Thanks members. ...
Keep on feeshin - RT
Edit: Oh ya, how could I forget. Another matter needs to be cleared up. Somehow on the pages of ifish I became an emu lover. How could a rediculous thing like that happen on the internet?!? I just want to make sure all of you know ... that it's true. images/icons/wink.gif

Well I was waiting for 144 but I couldn't pass up the opp. to post after the Emu legend himself.
I was a major lurker on the old board with no posts. I found the board accidently looking for a site that I could order dink floats from. Ended up here.
I am still a major lurker and don't post very often. This board helps get me through the work day as I am constantly checking things out.
I chose the moniker novice because thats how I felt after reading all the tech stuff. I considered myself a pretty good fisherman until I got on this site. It is then that I realized I don't know jack s***
I am determined to make a Flotilla in the future to meet all you great people. (Even you redneck)

I found this site through someone I met on The Oregonlive fishing forum. Once I came I liked it so much I hardley ever went to the other site. I have been on for about a year now.
Being a single mom of two teenage boys who doesn't know it all about fishing it has been my resource for information about those things I dont have a clue about. I have met some really wonderful people, and everyone is always so helpful.
I really enjoyed Fishstock last year. It was great to meet Jennie, Hookset and all the others that were there. The Carcass event was also something I learned alot from and enjoyed doing. (Next time I would make sure my gas tank was full).
I am going to be moving soon and will probably still visit the site just to keep in touch with things, and when get a chance to come back I will be up on things for fishing.

Found IFish while fiddling with a search engine about 6 months ago...now I'm an addict. Any Ifishers that spot me in my 15 foot high-bow aluminum skiff please stop to talk. I've had the Ifish stickers on the boat for a couple of months, but have not seen any on other boats yet. Thanks to Jen and all hands for a great board.

I enjoy reading Jennie's columns, checking river levels, reading the reports, reading the tech reports and posting my reports of my outings. I enjoy Dave Johnson's reports and I use this site to link to other sites - like the ODFW weekly reports and stocking. We also have tide tables. This is a great site - I check at least 1-2 per week.
