I talked to Terry at the Milwaukie location of South River Marine this afternoon. He said he didn't know if the store would be open after today due to business problems. This would be a loss to the community. I hope they can work it out.

Bought my boat from South River when they were only in Sweet Home. They gave me a killer deal. Hope they are still around when I decide to buy again. Great bunch of guys. Great service department as well.

Pete - just the local store. Hope not the entire business? Both my boats too. They have always taken care of me. Was just starting to be happy to be able to take my stuff to them, not all the way to Corvalis. Hope note. images/icons/frown.gif

My impression was it was just the Milwaukie store that was in trouble. Terry said he could end up somewhere else in the Portland area if they don't solve the problems by Monday. I for one hope it is solved. There just aren't many fair, reliable watercraft mechanics around.

Unfortunatley, it is both stores.

Let's discuss this futher since I have taken my boat to Corvallis and bought a lot of equipment there. I have always been happy with the quality and service too.
Is it a terminal or a temporary problem and where and who is another reputable choice???

This is a real drag, I just bought a boat from the Milwaukie store. Talked to Dave just the other day. They were great to deal with and Dave was very helpful with just about anything I needed even fishing info. Sorry to hear they have gone out of Business. Dave thanks again for everything and give a call and lets go fishing sometime.I guess if you want a new Willie you have to get it through the factory now. Marty

This is about as cool as penquin dung!

Spooled, everyone, let us know where Dave and the good guys end up. Man, don't understand this one. John Kunzman, what's up?

A friend who drives Hwy. 34 to and from work told me this morning that the Corvallis store is empty except for those boats that are apparently there for service.

Bummer. images/icons/frown.gif

The answering machine at the Corvallis store pretty much tells the whole story - "both stores are closed permanently!" Oh well. images/icons/frown.gif

Since it seems the SR is now out of the picture, I need help in determining a reliable place to take my boat for a little motor work and I'm totally stumped.
Any recommendations good or bad would be appreciated by me and I'm sure others.
Thanks images/icons/confused.gif images/icons/confused.gif

Pirate,

My fishing partner who also guides part time takes his boat over to Beaver Marine for work. He is very happy with the work they do for him and they are quicker then stevens marine.

I have had my old Koffler Gill Ward Special for over 10 years, and the only boat mechanic that ever touches it is Dennis Fast at Dennis's Boat shop in West Salem. He is honest, fair, and his prices reflect good work and he is someone you can talk to. He is kind of hidden, but I would reccommend him to anyone. His phone is 503-363-2898. Great guy, great prices, and good work. He used to be the primary boat mechanic for Gil Ward Marine and for Inland Marine before Denny Partridge ran it into the ground.

Noticed this afternoon there is a new place selling Smokercraft and other boats in Sweet Home on the north side of the highway close to the old South River lot.

If you go to the Willie boat web site It kinda looks as if Willie might have wanted all the buisness himself. That might not be a bad thing if that is the case. In all cases I would rather deal with the builder not the dealer. images/icons/smile.gif

If anyone hears where Roger King went to sell boats please post it. Anyone who bought from South River was a loyal customer for life. What a bummer...

Spooled posted to a thread on the other board and let me know that Terry from South River Marine is now over at North River Boats, working for them. Myfish apears to be right, by the looks of Willies website he is going to have everything go through the factory now. If anyone is looking for a good deal on a 17' driftboat there is one for a great price in The used boat area of willies website.
