I'm thinking about trying for a job in the Boise, ID area. Does anyone know what kind of fishing and/or hunting opportunities there are in that area? Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks all.

I lived there for a few years. There is some fishing (mostly fly) in the Boise River right in town. Some hunting just outside town in the hills. You can make it to great fishing and hunting in about 1-2 hrs in almost any direction. As long as you aren't after salmon, you could be pretty happy with it there. The Boise still gets a fair number of steelhead as I recall. In fact, I often wish I was still there, there weren't as many different options for fishing there as here, but there were a lot less people around. One tip, if you do a lot of traveling around the state when you get there, go for custom plates on your rig. The reason being that the regular plates show the county of registration on them (Boise being 1A I believe), and some folks in the more remote areas of the state don't like people with 1A's fishing and hunting their areas if you get my drift. With customs, they don't know where the heck you are from. For the most part though, if you aren't from California you wil be OK!! But I digress.....

If I had to move, Boise would be one of my top choices. The hunting is spectacular! I have a good bud that moved over there about 3 years ago and he loves it. I've done some hunting with him around the Boise area and it's hard to beat, if your in shape. The Boise river has a lot of Bull trout in it, but I'm not sure of the regulations. I almost think there listed as endangered in that river, but I could be wrong. If you like to hunt, you'll love the regulations. Long seasons with only a few areas that require a draw for tags. Ever hunted for a day without seeing anybody? You can do it over there.
Good luck, there have been a lot of lay offs in the electronics industry over there, so jobs may be tough to come by in that field.

Everyone was mostly right. There are fish in the Boise River right in town, rainbows and browns, and occasional hatchery surplus steelhead. Bass, catfish and sturgeon (cannot keep) in the Snake. For steelhead it's the Salmon River, Snake below Hells Canyon Dam or the Clearwater, all about 3 hours away. I think we have had 4 salmon seasons in the last 25 years. This salmon season has been great!! (Thanks I-Fishers for letting them go past you guys images/icons/grin.gif ) Hunting can be awewsome, and within an hour of town. Duck and goose hunting on the Snake. But Boise has it's growing pains also, be aware. I used to enjoy elk hunting, you could hunt for days and not see another soul. Not anymore, there is a hunter behind every tree.
