I Have had a FoodSaver by Tilia for years...(had to replace the first one last year). I've been pleased with it. The Professional II model is now the only one with a cutter, out of all of their models, and it allows one to use the rolls cut to size. (You can use sissors, but it is awkward) The bags are more expensive to use in the long run. Tilia has a retail price on the Professional II model of $319.99. You can check the three top models & discount-prices on the internet @: WWW.foodsaverforless.com (http://WWW.foodsaverforless.com) Both Cabela's and Foodsaver for Less advertise the Prof.II model @ $275.99 plus shipping. Thats the lowest I've seen, too. Another place you might check is in Seattle:
Professional Marketing Group. Don't know whether they will discount or not.

I've used the Tilia Ultra model for about two years. No problems so far and easy to use! Check it out at Costco for $159.

Now all you have to do is catch something to seal in the bags! images/icons/grin.gif

I use the foodsaver 1050. Its great for packaging fish, bait etc. It has a great suction as it will collapse a beer can with little effort. It uses several types of bags and can be used for making bags from rolled material. Cost with several rolls of bag material was 179.00 at fred myers.

Tilia Foodsaver Deluxe for 8 years now. I've lost count of how many sacks of smelt that thing has bagged. I use glycerin on the rubber seals and it wont quit working.
Flash freeze in the open bag and then seal it. This almost always seals every time.
The bags are 'reusable'. Even so they are expensive.
Is there any other brand that uses a less expensive bag?

Foodsaver II here. Best prices on "roll" I've seen are at Costco...second best at Bi-Mart. Mine's about 10 years old and seen lots of use and still works great!!

I got my Professional II (brand new) in an auction at ebay a few months ago for $220. There were lots of 'em at the time. If you're careful you can save a bundle! A nice feature on this unit is the ability to manually over-ride the automatic shut-off and pull incredible vacuum.

same as GreggH said but I only paid $190 for the one I got that was with shipping. You can also controll the temp. of the seal it also has a deep trough in it so if you suck up a little fish slim it wont get sucked in to the vacuum pump as easy

The Vacuum sealers have been covered enough already, so I won't add anything else to that. However, I have found the best price for vacuum seal bags to be at Costco. Normally, bags in Longview are $9-$10 for a 20 foot roll. I purchased six rolls at Costco in Astoria for a total of $36, or $6 a roll, not a bad deal.

I bought the Tilia Food Saver Deluxe. I think it is now the model 1050. You can get them from chefscatalog.com for $159.99 with small rolls of both the 8" and 11" bags as well as some pre-cut bags. Replacement bags can be purchased at Bi-Mart and I think Costco has them as well. I think Costco gets $159.99 for the Ultra model which is one model down from the 1050 or Deluxe.

Smily,
Another idea is to do a search on vacume sealers on this site. It has been discussed many times before and some good advice and information lies in them there pages! images/icons/wink.gif

I'll put in my vote for the Tillia Foodsaver @ Costco. Wife bought me one for X-mas, & it is great. It is the best deal in town, and the bags from Costco are the cheapest price in town as well. It was something I always wanted, and I'm very pleased with it.

I saw the new tilia food saver on tv for 4 easy payments of 43.33. It came with bags and if you buy it now(next 60 minutes) we will drop one of the payments....making it only 130 off the tv dish network on one of the outdoor channels late night. Don't know the number, but may need it since our sealer burner is starting to go out. Wrote the company to see if they have a warranty.
here is the number from tv 1 800 266 9651

Hey Smilesforu,
I just seen that informorcial this morning. You can get them much cheaper refurbished thru Like Ebay. I seen the ultra model go for as little as $55.00. That's the next step up. The compact II are going for about $65.00. Go figure, that's the next step down. There's a lot of people that buy them and return them and they can't legally sell them as new any more calling them refurbished. Ask around, I found 2 out of 5 people that had them and don't use them anymore. Picked up a foodsaver compact model for $20.00. It's a little old but hardly used.

Do they have a website so I can keep the models and features straight in my pea brain. I think a new one will be coming soon.
All I had to do was reread the top couple posts.

hey Smilesforu,
Websites: WWW.Tilia.com (http://WWW.Tilia.com) (Main brand site) WWW.foodsaverforless.com (http://WWW.foodsaverforless.com) (Refurbished models) WWW.Ebay.com (http://WWW.Ebay.com) (Do a search on Tilia,Litterally hundreds of them out there) You can buy a refurbish model from Foodsaverforlesss.com for less than ebay Prices unless you try to get the ultra or better. Then I think it's okay to get one from ebay. I bid on a couple of them and lost by only a couple of dollars.
Hope this helps. But once again I would ask around and check garage sales, You never know waht you might find. If you go new, I would go for Costco $159.00 new with alot of gizmos I don't think i would use, But you never know. Beware of the $15.00 shipping charges as well if you mail order. Good luck.
