Has anyone been out fishing for bass at Crane so far? A few buddies and I are planning on taking a trip to my place in Bend in late July and Crane is going to be one of the stops to fish for bass. Hows the fishing there in late july?

It should still be good. There are going to be lots of club tournaments in July. Most clubs agreed with ODFW to stay of the lake in June to help with the spawn.

Why ?? seems like the spawn would be the perfect time to target bass at Crane and fill coolers full of them and eat them. Sad to see the ODFW has given up on Crane.
I love bass fishing, but Crane is a prime example of Bucket Bios really screwing a place up. It was a top 5 trout lake in the west

I fished there on the 1st with a buddy and we caught over 20 bass between 2.5 and 4 lbs in about 4 hours of fishing. Water temp was 70 degrees. Almost all our fish were caught on Senkos with a few caught on spinnerbaits. They were very agressive. We were the only boat out there fishing for bass that I saw and only one other boat fishing for trout.

So ODFW is now promoting the illegal introduction of species. Interesting. I'd like to see just one document that shows this to be true...

Ok, second hand but I'll trust your source as I try not to puke all over my keyboard. I've obviously got some letters to write to ODFW and some trips to plan over to crane during next years spawn...

I guess you didn't read my post above about fishing there on June 1st of THIS year. It was one of the best days on the water I have ever had!!

Fish in the cove behind the resort. There is a submerged tree about 100 feet out from the swim dock that always holds fish. Twenty fish days out of that cove are not unusual most from 1 1/2 to 4 1/2 lbs.
Also on the opposite side of the lake (west) the arm that heads to the hiway is all fairly shallow and holds lots of fish. Another place to try is between Rock Creek CG and the rocky point. I've got them over 6 there. Good luck!!

I was there last weekend for the first time for a couple of hours. The water was pretty cold still (60 and less) and I didn't catch anything.
