I'm not very familar with the channel but would like to take my wife out this three day weekend and boat around. Of course I want to wet a line. Any suggestions on where to put in and to fish? Shad or Sturgeon? Any Salmon out there?

Pilar, thanks for the specific rigging advice. Taking my boys out tomorrow morning for a first try for shad. Should be a kick!

Just took my wife out today for the same thing, a little tight line action. Thanks to Pilar's and ******'s advice the trip was an outstanding sucess! Boated half a dozen shad in less than half an hour using the rig he outlined above images/icons/grin.gif.

Fishing (catching) was great until a seal showed up and preformed the dance of death with a few salmon. He/she was really gorging. Thought my wife was going for the flare gun a couple of times when the seal tossed half a salmon across the channel.

We were having a great time until my anchor slipped. When I retrieved it and tied on my big anchor two people were already fighting for our spot images/icons/shocked.gif. Funny, when I got there I didn't want to drift into anybody in case the anchor slipped so I went way up out of the way away from everyone. Good thing I did.

Well, after we lost the spot we went for a cruise down to St. Helens and back. Sure was a good time and if the wife isn't too sun burned I plan to take her and my son out tomorrow. Play nice out there.

Tight lines,

Mr. F.

Hi Rags. First choice for shad would be near Coon island. The shallow water on the Sauvie island side is the best. Last time I was there it was about 12 ft. deep. Just find a spot by the cruise boat dock about 100 ft out from it and go. Fish when the tide is running out. This weekend that will be from early morning to early afternoon. Say 9 to 4. This is only a guess. You wont get shad when the tide is incoming, the lures don't work hard enough.

The rig was 42" dropper, three way swivel, 40" leader, chrome and red 'Wee' dick nite. 2 to 3 oz. of lead and bounce it back from the boat. I use 8# leader but you may get a springer or two so use a light drag and get ready for a sleigh ride if you get lucky.

Sturgeon are still in the Columbia near Kelly Point but not many fishing for them. I'm not real sure about any good spots on the Channel for sturgeon, anyone?

Salmon? yeah, right!

Pilar,
Where do you put-in? I will be out there on Monday in a Teal Super Vee. If any of you Ifishers are out there say hello.

Same report for me. We tried to trollup a salmon for about 3 hours with no success. And then did the shad thing for a while with just a few fish on.

Yes, ****** it was nice to see you in person! I was already getting ideas on how to make use of that Assaulter and it's sharp 'V' at Buoy 10.

Went back for more on Saturday. Had a great time. Would have posted some pics but I was too busy with the net. images/icons/grin.gif
My 8 yr old was so worn out he said that he was afraid he was going to drop his fishing pole images/icons/shocked.gif and the wife's arms are still tired. It was a day to remember images/icons/wink.gif.

******, Was that you in the blue Wille Asualter? I was in a tan and brown Sea Swirl and fished further up the channel. It was too crowded where you were fishing for me and the family. Wanted to say hi but had to get the boy to the dock. Some things just shouldn't be hung over the side images/icons/shocked.gif.

Thanks again for the tips, Hope to see ya on the water.

I bought a couple of decals but I can't seem to find them. images/icons/confused.gif

If ya see me out there stop by and say hi images/icons/smile.gif.

Tight lines....

Mr. F.

Mr. Fisherman, from your post I'm assuming you and the family were into the shad. Can you share the location and where did you launch? I'm getting ready to take my boys next week.
