En route to the coast, I wanted to make a stop or two along the Umpqua to check out shad fishing "south county" style. I have heard of places like the "popcorn hole" and "Sawyer's rapids," but I am not very familiar with the area. Any recommended stopping points along the way? Thanks in advance.

Many places and parks to see the river from, stop in Elkton and ask the locals. Have fun

There is a school just west of Elkton. You can park there and walk around the west side of the school and head straight down to the river. There's a nice riffle to fish and usually not too many folks. good luck!
