OK, I'm calming down after three days of reliving every rock concert I ever went to, every album cover I ever studied 45 minutes at a time while the album played and all those other memories triggered by Big Stew's irrelevant-to-fishing-but-vital-to-life-thread on guitar players. I've resisted the temptation to start a thread on movies you take to a desert island ("The Wild Bunch" heads my list BTW), or "the album you listened to the loudest as a teenager" (Black Sabbath/ "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath", of course, with AC/DC's "High Voltage" a close second.)
No, the reason for the post is to recommend a piece of software that enables you to create your own screensavers from your PC-based photos. Go to www.screensavershot.com (http://www.screensavershot.com) and download the free screensaver building software (which gives you a limited number of free views/ uses -- $20 to register the software for unlimited use). This site also has thousands of free screensavers you can download and use right away, too.
Screensaver Shot 2.0 is an easy program to use (I can help here if anyone gets stuck), and takes about five minutes to assemble a 10-12 picture (whatever) screensaver out of photos you've stored on your hard disk.
I've been using the program for a year and it works fine. So when I get tired of looking at family screensavers, I change the screensaver to a fishy theme and relive some past moments of glory.
Anyway, I just had to replace my hard drive at home and spent six hours reloading software and back-up files. Recreating the screensavers with this program was one of the more enjoyable tasks. (Next time I'll back them up, too.)
PS If you don't have a Zip or similar high capacity backup drive, GET ONE. Some day you, too, will have a hard drive crash and burn (as the hard drive on my office Dell did before Christmas!). Without monthly backups to restore you'll be crying. Trust me. images/icons/mad.gif
