Headed over on Wednesday for 4 days of fishing and looking for any info on water conditions. I usually go in April but this is better than nothing. Looking forward to hittin' the crappie! If there are any other Ifishers going going let me know and I can be on the lookout for you.

Water level is still at full pool. We have had some rough weather that has had the bite off and on. As for the Powder and Lower Snake there are still some crappie and bass that have yet to spawn. The crappie that spawned earlier are now showing up. Catfishing is picking up but still not red hot, much better upriver. Bluegill are starting to nest. Caught a real nice, thick 14" white crappie yesterday but most of them are about 9 -10". Evenings have been the best fishing.

Well, good to hear that some of the small-mid-sized crappie are showing up!

We just got back from Brownlee. The fishing was OK....not good, but any means. We caught about 25-30 per day. We caught a few catfish. The weather was not great either. We had to work for the fish. Most crappie were around 9" long. Cats were 3-5 lbs.

Here's what a friend of mine had to say about it yesterday;
Went up to Brownlee Reservoir yesterday to do some pre-fishing for a tournament next Saturday. It was a little tougher than I expected. We put in at Spring Ramp by Huntington, OR and fished and worked our way clear down and into to the Powder River arm. It was very tough in the upper part of the reservoir, but we found a couple patterns and started catching fish about mid-resrvoir. The further down we went, the clearer the water was and the better the fishing was. We ended up catching most of our better fish between 25 and 35 feet deep on spider grubs on some new football jigheads that I am testing. I caught some fish Carolina rigging the Assalt paddletail ringer worms. I drop a few fish on dropshot rigs, including a 3 or 4 lbs. catfish. Our biggest smallmouth was just under 2 lbs.; not all that big but I am confident that if we don't waste all morning checking out the non-productive water in the upper reservoir that we will find the bigger fish. Any place we hooked a decent fish we left so that we didn't sore mouth any more fish than we had to.
The upper part of the reservoir had a lot more zooplankton in the water and you can already see the start of the annual algae bloom.
If you're reading this Steve; hope you don't mind. If you aren't reading this, then it makes no never mind.

Many Thanks for the updates. Sounds like there is a tournament on Brownlee this Saturday?? Anyone know which ramp they will be using?
I'll be sure to let you know how it goes. Can't wait to batter up some crappie fillets!

Texas Rig and his wife caught 26 crappie in an hour Thursday evening, a few 12 inchers. We had pretty heavy rain off and on today.
Tournaments don't come to Richland very often. My guess is they will launch out of Woodhead or Spring Creek. If I make it to town tomorrow I will find out.

So Texas Rig caught some crappie, did he? I thought the 'ole guy' had lost his touch. There was a day that I used to fish with him, but I lost my seat when he started taking his wife. You guys know how that goes :D:D
Well, I used to 'kick his butt' anyway.....No, I'm glad that he is taking Paula with him....wish I could get my wife out there. Oh well, lost another fishin' buddy.....

My wife and I got back from Richland Sat after 7 days of fishing, Actually 2 of those days we froze our rears off. The crappie were a bit finicky but we managed 25 to 30 each time we targeted them . Stayed out the night twice and then hit them pretty good one afternoon on a mini spinner blade with jig. We fished mostly for bass during the day and hit the dock at night for cats. My wife caught the biggest Bass , Crappie and Catfish........;) She was catching 6 cats to my one each night we fished. She managed one 10 lber that put up a nice fight. Chinooknut made it up a couple days before we took off and was yanking in some crappie last we saw him. He and his buddy were doing pretty good on the cats anchored up in the channel in front of the dock at night. Was a very nice vacation except for a couple windy cold days . Here is a couple pics . The bass is a large mouth I think, some body ID this fish for me.
