You can still fish, but they recommend removing all the fat, skin and guts as the toxin will reside there. I resigned to C&R fishing this weekend.

Google it up and you will find plenty of press releases on it

Thanks for the tip, I actually was headed there as well, but decided to go to Suttle instead. Is there any algae bloom there?

Thanks!

This makes me wonder if the toxin is fat soluable and how long after the bloom is over the toxin remains in the fish.

Not sure, but the one item I read was that once the lake proves clear it will be at least two weeks before they lift the warning. If this wasn't a neighborhood camp out a year in the making - I'd be going somewhere else

Ayone want to pull me on waterskis around Detroit wearing a chemical suit?
After that, we would have the whole place to ourselves, if it wasnt already empty. Its starting to sound inviting to me, less people.
I am not afraid of the Creature from the Black Lagoon.

Mitch, I think you are right, won't have the wake boats out and the fisher folks maybe few and far between - was thinking of trying some more deep water stuff since I can't get the kids some trout, maybe I can put the hurt on some Nooks.

We're in H loop and will have the boat moored there Friday and Sat, call on 78 for Rho Boat - or look for the Blue Lund with the putty/pewter top with Yami's on the back. Probably be running a line between Mongold and the south side of the island for deep creatures, or north side Mongold to the dam. Course that all depends on where the yuck water is.

I already skin my trout anyway so it probably isn't a real issue to worry about, but hate to get someone ill other than myself

Thanks for the info guys. Ill be in a 20ft new northriver seahawk. Yami's motors and black stripe paint on the side. I was planning on catch and release anyway. I like the news now, knowing maybe there wont be alot of people on the water...when i made reservations for camping, there was no boat moorage available in H ramp...maybe there will be now..ill have to check. I am staying in H loop too...cant remember what number...Thanks again!!

I just called the campground and slips are available, but cannot be reserved since we are within two days of arrival. If it was Monday - you could have reserved a slip - I suspect that Tuesday there were quite a few cancelations

The showers are free stay as long as you need. I have canceled my 4 day trip up their this weekend because of the bloom. Most of the sponsored free fishing events have been canceled as well. I'm going over to try Green Peter, i did well last year over there so i go try again.

Last I was up there, a week ago, the bloom was all in the west end , the dam and the cove down there, name????

The water around the island and above all seemed crystal and clean. The kokes were in 48-65'. We got ours trolling K-Killers rainbow and a silver one both tipped with Pautskis soaked corn====== two over 15". 4 around 11 or 12"

It is true, except for about 4 other boats on a perfect hot day, the lake was deserted. The 4 others came form elsewhere as we had the Mongold ramp to ourselves

This is over a week since we BBQ'd those kokes and we ain't sick. And will go back

Maybe we just got lucky but the eastern part of the lake seemed fine

WHo is going to be at Detroit this weekend? I might stop in sat night for a campfire and some early fishin sunday. It certainly has cooled up there, which I think would help with the algae. Wind? thats another question...

Mitch, were in H47 with a group from the neighborhood - thinking the fire pit we will use is right next to the H loop dock as that is an empty spot for our group and will be used as a rally point. Having to wait on the girls - Arrrghhhh! Twig #1, has to watch some darn movie on WW2 for a test next week in 7th period - ya baby camper, boat and us down the road in rush hour traffic - sometimes you just have to - no never mind - off to the store to buy more beer.

Wind can suck on that lake in the afternoon especially - usually shuts the bite down.

Going to confuse the fish and wear my halibut jacket that smells like tuna bellies - at least I know knowbody will sit next to me at the fire :passout:
