Im thinking about going down and flyfishing for some shad... Can anyone give me any tips on where to go, and what to use..... Also, how long will the shad be thick in the umqua... i wont be able to go for another week and a half or so.. WIll it be any good?

evan they should be in there in decent numbers for a few more weeks head for the yellow creek area its around 15 miles or so from elkton heading towards sutherlin there is a boat ramp there you cant miss it, my buddies and I walk up river from the ramp and fish the chute the shad are right next to your feet you'll see hundreds going by we fish a multitude of collers but green flies with some silver tinsel on body seem to be working the best we are using barbells for eyes for extra weight or add a split shot or two also running a fast sinking line for the heavier deeper water.have fun RJ
