Just bought some, do you guys use the pretied leaders or do you replace them, it looks like flouracarbon but a little big!

Ha, my eyes aren't working properly this morning, and I read "pretend" leaders instead of pretied. I thought, "Hm, I didn't think they were THAT bad." :o
I did end up retying most of mine, though.

Just put em down and watch em come up with a fish ...

I think I've used um as they came. Right out-o-the package.

When the line between the first and second hook gets all messed up from a days fishing, then I'll retie.

Which version did you get? Hot Spot (the originals) or ProTroll (with eChip)? Let us know how they do compared to your WRs. I think they come with the hooks too close together. I know a lot of people like them shank to shank, but I really like an inch or so between so I can nab those short strikers. I also tied some up with 3 or 4 glass beads in front of the hooks, and looped the line trough the front holes a couple of times to hold some space (like 4") between the beads and the lure body -- kind of a mini dodger/bug arrangement. Seem to work at least as well as the factory rig. Nice little twitch to the beads. Goes well with the twits in the boat.

Very interesting concept there Mo...might have to tie a couple up like that and try it.

What I like about this section....great ideas and sharing galore.

I forgot, I also picked up some 4/0 dodgers that are plastic and have e-chips in them, maybe, with them and the Koke killers I can electrocute a whole school!

"I can electrocute a whole school!"

Then just wait for them to float to the surface.:food:

I tested the 4" plastic ProTroll gizmos last year. THey are not really dodgers, they are flashers (dodgers don't rotate, they flop bach and forth -- the flashers from ProTroll have a fin to force them to rotate, even at pretty slow speed). Metal dodgers out performed them by a pretty wide margin for me. I talked to the guys at ProTroll and they said some of their ProStaffers found they worked better if you run them "free". If you want to try it, run your line through the front swivel of the flasher, than thread on a 6mm bead, and tie on a swivel. Tie your lure (must have it's own action) by it's leader to the swivel, and troll per usual, but with the flasher flopping around unfettered. Love to hear how they work for you, in either configuration.

I have thought of putting one off the ball like I have done for salmon. I have also heard of people running them with a kokanee killer on a short leader causing the lure to really dance around. So many option, so little time.

Dang, I thought they would flop like a dodger, glad I only bought two:frown:, I doubtr if I will try the protroll things this weekend, but I will give the koke killers (e-chips) and the apexs a try out!

Brian, good plan running them off the cannon ball. I have run them end to end (4 of them) and free spinning on a line from their front swivels only. In both cases I think I got more flash and fewer tangles with Vances cannonball troll. Need to try them next on some steel cable because the 80# dacron cord I ran them on twisted into a hopeless mess. As you say, so many things to try and so little time! Love this chance to share funky ideas with a whole team of tinkerers! "Many fishermen make amusing work!" Or was that "too many fishermen foil the froth"? No, I think it's "if you can fish, get out of the kitchen!"

Yet to try some more: salmon sized Apex's for dodgers. Gave them a run hoping for a dodger with less weight, but they didn't do anything like the metal dodgers. Waiting for their first run: School of Rapalas as a gang troll (have them rigged, without hooks, spaced 6-8" apart -- their number just hasn't come up yet). What kokanee could resist a wedding ring chasing a bunch of little kokanee? Per FishNMike from CA, we are the mad scientists!

Have you notice that the red hook bead on the killer produces more strikes ?

Last weekend did somthing new came off down rigger with two 12 inch salmon flashers in series off the ball and a killer only on the line.

The strikes were killer had to add two snubbers. Thought the slack of the release from the down rigger would be enough boy was i wrong.
