Piscatorial's Mike H. provided the following story - it sounds unbelievable but it's true. A must read! ...
http://www.tri-cityherald.com/news/2001/0520/story2.html

This caused such an uproar that turned racially confrontive that Mike felt compelled to delete his thread and re-start it. Because of that incident last evening, I felt compelled to put up the 'RACISM ....' thread there and copy it over to here too; hopeful of gaining a better understanding between Indians and whites in general, and ultimately try to come up with solution ideas to the 'cold war' developing over salmon and steelhead fishing. Please contribute your thoughts to that thread as well. Thanks. - RT

If they actually end up paying this, I found me a new profession images/icons/grin.gif

Imagine that, a story like this didn't make it into our wonderful Oregonian paper?? Or, into one of our evening news casts?? I guess the farther up the river, the easier it is to get away with being "politically incorrect".

About 15 years ago I was doing research work on the northwest power grid that brought me in contact with Umatilla chairman Antone Minthorne. The Umatillas are an eastern Oregon tribe severely impacted by the effect of dams on salmon runs. It's been quite a while since I spoke to him, but I found him refreshingly well spoken in support of positions I didn't necessarily agree with. I encourage anyone interested to give him a call at (541) 276-3165 ... he's accessible and easy to talk to. Certainly a better solution than preaching to the choir.
