A 15 y/o neighbor kid asked me yesturday if I would take him shad fishing for his B-day!
I told him I would gladly take him but I dont know where to go. My boat is being serviced so we have to bank it. Any advice on areas in OC would be greatly appreciated. I have never been shad fishing before either but all the info Ive gotten from here should make it fairly easy. Thanx to everyone for their help. Probably the best chance to get shad from the bank is the willamette river side of Clackamet park in Oregon City. Any where from the Clackamas on up, although I like right close to the mouth, on the Willamette side. Casting spinners usually works or small wobblers or shad darts. He even stands a chance of catching a Bass or two.

I don't know if the shad go up into sucker creek outlet at Lake Oswego anymore. In days of years gone by, they used to come into the area by the park, by the thousands and just circled in that area.

I hope you have some luck. The shad is a great fish to have young people catch. Lots of fight. It gets them hooked.

Thanx for the info hawgcatcher. Thats probably where we will go. If we dont have much luck there may head down to the Umpqua and give it a try. Its a learning experience for me as well so should be very exciting! Thanx again everyone for all the info. images/icons/smile.gif

Just wanted to thank everyone for all the info on shad fishing!! Hawgcatcher thanx for the details on where to go!! I went today with my father just to check things out before taking any kids along and I had the TIME OF MY LIFE!!! Between my father and I we hooked over 60 shad in 4 hrs between 9am and 1pm on our very first trip ever. Of course we diddnt land all of them but we brought home enough to put a hurt to some crabs in a month or two! Cant wait to get some kids into this AMAZING FISHERY! And it will/should only get better right? Thanx again to everyone for the info! Jon images/icons/grin.gif images/icons/cool.gif
