This is 2nd hand from my dad who was up middle of last week, but he had to troll to catch fish. He generally likes to stillfish, but they did that for 1/2 a day with 2 fish for 2 guys. When the went to trolling they had consistent (not great but consistent) with a fish up to 17 inches. Worms behind flashers (not my favorite but better than not catching anything) and he generally trolled the middle of the lake, south to north. He has an electric motor which he feels helps a lot when he trolls.

Just got back from there! managed to get only 4 fish.. still fishing!
wished I would of got the tip on trolling a little sooner! but, tried it in the past and still fishing seemed to produce bigger fish.. we caught nothing huge, biggest maybe 16" lost a bigger one than that maybe 20"
Still had fun! and being there is way better then sitting home!

Sorry you didn't get my post in time FishTy,
As you can see from my 1 post, I'm pretty new to the board. Honestly, I would rather catch 4 decent fish stillfishing than double that with flashers and worms. That's just my opinion. I'm going up on Friday and will probably flyfish. Did you see many guys flyfishing?

there were alot of people on float tubes. I assume they were fly fishing but don't know for sure, but there were alot of fish jumping so I bet that fly fishing would be good! And still fishing has always been the way to maybe pick up those big lunkers in there. seems like the trollers usually only pick up the smaller ones.. my favorite way of fishing there will allways be still fishing! but this time it was slow!

Dad has been fishing BL for a week now, he lives in Lapine, says there is a killer hatch from about noon to 1:30, he has been hooking in the teens to 20's in that streatch on ???Krippled something in 5-10' of water. Thats why you are seeing the float tubers out I bet. He has been getting some real bruisers too.

Rusty. Did your dad give you any idea of where he was fishing at Lava? I usually go to the far (north) end if I have my motorboat. Too long in my pontoon, though. No biggy if you don't know. THought I would check. I think I can figure out the flies (Callibaetis). Have to tie some up tonight.

Rusty-Thanks for the efforts. Wallowas are a good place for some kickback time. Don't sweat it if you don't connect with your dad.I'm off myself tomorrow after lunch.

He fished it yesterday. Boat put in on the South side look left for the weedbeds about 100 feet off those.

In AM:
Olive green wollie
brown wollie
black wollie

Or go dry
#20 cadibatais(sp) that was the hatch he was hammering them on earlier.

He is going to Cresent tommorrow just to mix it up.

Good luck

Rusty- Cheers for that. I am leaving in 4 hours. FINALLY, I haven't been away from work and fished for 2 months. May your karma be excellent at Wallowa.
