Anyone fish Diamond Lake after the rebirth yet?
We were thinking of doing a family weekend up there like the old days and were wanting to hear some fishing reports. I want to get my 4 year old boy to experience what I did growing up!
I haven't seen anything in the paper good or bad. The last article said they stocked it with 6K trout. Not too terribly high number for that sized lake.
Let me know if you have heard anything.

I've been planning on going within the next two weeks or so. I had some people that were there for memorial day weekend and said most of the people were catching lots of fish ranging from 12-18 inches. Most of them also had a kicker around 2-4lbs. If you do get up there let me know how you do. I'm trying to decide between Lava and diamond right now. Although their reports will always be biased check out - http://diamondlake.net/fishingreport.html At the bottom of this page you will see a huge trout! That was caught a couple months before the fish kill. Obviously feeding on the tui. Can't wait for this fishery to get restored to what it once was. Looks like it's making one heck of a start though.

The last article said they stocked it with 6K trout.
From the ODFW website:
"Anglers can once again fish Diamond Lake beginning in spring 2007 when ODFW stocks it with 50,000 – 100,000 fingerlings and 10,000 – 25,000 catchable-sized trout. A minimum of 50,000 put-and-take rainbow trout will be stocked pending funding." I had heard that the actual number of put and take rainbows was more like 65,000, but the news release quoted above was from the winter before the lake had melted. They stocked some big brood stock as well.
From the ODFW 6/4/07 Recreation Report:
DIAMOND LAKE: Boat anglers are catching limits of fish. The fish have spread throughout the lake, with the best fishing occurring on the west side of the lake. Some fish are being caught near Silent Creek. Boat anglers were doing well anchored up and waiting for the fish to find the bait. Power bait has been the most effective. Anglers need to remember that the limit is five fish per day, and only one trout over 20” may be harvested per day.
Sounds like there might be a trip there in my near future!

I went a few weeks ago and the fishing was great. Both trolling and still fishing were productive and the southwest part of the lake was the hotspot, although the fish have probably dispersed a little more since then. We averaged limits of fish about 16 inches with a 6 1/2 pounder being the biggest.

I had a friend go up there this weekend with his girlfriend. They fished Saturday night and caught limits. All of them were around 2lbs with one that went around 6lbs. Apparently the bite really picked up after 7:00 with them "not being able to count to 10 before they had one on". It sounds like pretty good fishing, and I think they are supposed to stock some more legal sized fish pretty soon.
