Got the boys up at 5:20 AM and loaded into the truck at 5:45, rolled into Speelyai Bay at 6:30. We started fishing around 7:00. Put out the red & silver dodger, red wedding ring with red corn – fish on before I could get the 2nd rod in the water. We went 1 for 3 on red.
This was the fist time using the new Daiwa Spinmatics rods (loved them) - so I did not think I needed to use snubbers. Lesson: when fishing Kokes with Kids – use snubbers! Then red stopped working and I switched to green. Green with silver blade and especially green with brass blade caught the rest of the fish for us. We used both un-dyed and chartreuse dyed corn (all soaked in Pro-Cure Kokanee Special Oil) with the green wedding rings. Both caught fish, but the brass blade n green was the hot lure. We ended up going 7 for 15+. I did much better after I added the snubbers. I marked lots of fish at 45+ feet, but caught most around 20 feet. One came while I had just let 70 feet of line out and put the rod in the holder so I could hook it to the downrigger. With the downrigger clip in my hand I looked up to see the pole dancing. I could not have been more the 5 or 10 feet down. The boys became board and wanted to go swimming (it was warm) so we where off the water by 10:30.

Want to test your fishing skills? – Try running two rods, two downriggers, the kicker, keep the boat straight, pass out food, net fish and keep a 7 and 8 year old interested and manage to catch a few. I’m not bragging, but I was worn-out. I wonder if that is what it is like to be a guide!

It was a nice day to be a dad. Did you go? How did you do?

If he has two kids he probably will need to buy braces, etc. before spending what they want for one of those!

Thanks for the report. I'm going up there for the first time on wednesday! :smash:

How was the wind?
We fished the Yale on Sunday. We went 1 for 6. Wifee was a little yankee on the pole.

Sounds like my typical day with the kids. Wouldn't trade it for anything.

I was off the water by 10:30. A slight breeze came up around 10:00, but it was no problem. My plan for an auto pilot is to train my boys to run the kicker and steer the boat. But I think the other boaters around me would appreciate my waiting a few more years before I attempt that.

I had a great time and plan to take my boy's again soon. It is a labor of love.

Auto Pilots aren't cheap at any age, especially when they get older and you have to keep filling those hollow legs. We do thank you for thinking of all the rest of us though. :)

Great job on the family fun and fishies.
