Who's figured out the Wickiup kokanee? Hoping to fish it Sunday evening and Monday morning with my brother. Any news appreciated!

We fished Saturday morning and evening and again Sunday morning and did not get one fish.:passout: There were lots of boats out there, but we only saw a couple of fish taken. Didn't look like anybody was knocking 'em dead. The water level was good, I just didn't mark too many fish.
Anybody else have any luck.....

Man, that is about as slow as it gets. You did not mark fish even early in the morning? I have seen them suspended until the sun comes up and then disappear. I think they belly up to the bottom and sulk.

Fished it Sunday evening. It was bad enough that we didn't bother staying to fish this morning. One bite, one 17" kokanee, in 5 hours. Saw quite a few boats, but didn't see any nets waving. I guess you fished it out opening weekend Brian!

Any news on the Browns?? A good friend of mine was just up there and caught several nice Browns. I was thinking of going this weekend.

definitely marked fish, north side of the Davis arm, right at the edge of the channel, in 30 feet of water. The one fish we caught took bait about 8" below a blue and white zinger jig, right on the bottom.

Anyone know about a place to stay near Wickiup? The Wife wants to go and won't sleep in the rig.....the son and I no problem...but she wants a lodge or motel/hotel. I don't know of any close. :help: I like it that my wife likes to fish but she has her limits..:smirk:

Twin Lakes resort right at Wickiup, Crane Prairie lodge, or the Timber Crest in La Pine 30 minutes away.

We fished wickiup yesterday morning and caught 3 kokes in 6hrs. Very slow tryed everything in the tackle box. Got off the lake before the big rain.

Thanks Reel Handle. At least you caught a few! Rats, whats up with Wickiup? Sunday evening the surface temp was 66 degrees. Wish I had a sinking thermometer on board -- interesting to know what the bottom temps are like. Unbeliveable water temp for this early. Algae seems to be getting right with it too. The fish we caught had an empty stomach -- your's feeding? Just a hint of algae taste too.

To prevent the "algae taste", I usually take out my cooler (I don't have a fish box) with ice in it. As soon as I catch the fish, in the cooler they go. I have seen a lot of people up there dragging their catch around the lake on a stringer or fish basket. Even when the water temp is 70+ degrees.
I was up there for a week and a half after the opener and then again for about 4 days a couple weeks ago. Kokes are definitely hard to find. Most days I got between 6 and 11 myself with partner in boat doing about the same. Mostly on troll. Hard to find one fish close enough to the other to jig.

Great tip on the ice chest vs. fish basket. I strongly agree. I like to bleed them first in a bucket of water to keep the ice and fish cleaner in the ice chest. In the spring I love having snow in the ice box!

Yeah, when the surface temp is 70 degrees, too many people cooked their fish before they even get back to camp by dragging them around all day. Not too much snow this spring. Had it twice in the week after the opener, about a half inch in the morning on the boat. Did get the boat swamped once, also. You have to watch that wind from the east and south.
