Any reports on action at Suttle Lake?
I am heading to Suttle, Odell, or Cresent on Saturday with my brother and would like any input or reports on the kokanee action at these lakes.
I am not real picky on size, but would like to catch a good amount of fish for the smoker.
Any recomendations on which lake to hit for Saturday only?
or, maybe its a secret...

Three of my favorites! All pretty enough that you can tell your wife you were more interested in the scenery if you fail to catch a fish. I fished Suttle once in early May. 26 fish in 3 hours, and they all fit in a single gallon ziplock. A little past prime time for browns, but there are some huge ones.
Fished Odell three times. 25 fish limit just like Suttle. Overpopulated just like Suttle, but the fish are 10-11 inches (a few to 13") vs. 9 inches at Suttle (VERY few a little bigger). Easy to catch in both places.
Fished Crescent 5 times. Limit is 5, but they are really nice fish 14-16" with a few BIG ones. Been great fishing but sounds like it's been tapering off.
Happy fishing! PLease report your results. I'd love to hear about someone finding a school of bigger fish at Suttle.

:agree: Fished Suttle last Saturday. Lots of fish, but small in the 8-9" range. The schools were also small and spread out. Caught half trolling, half jigging.

Suttle is taking on that pea green color already. I would opt for Odell or Crescent Lake if driving is not an issue.

Thanks guys! I appreciate it!
I may head to Odell or Crescent. I don't want to chance Suttle if the water is already warming up. I fished there last Summer after it warmed up, and it was as dead as could be.
Heck, for one day I think I'll head to Odell. I know the lake, and want some action!
I'll be in a 16' blue and gray sylvan (windshield and evinrude 70) with no ifish sticker yet.

I'm headed to Suttle Friday and Saturday 6/8,6/9. I'm taking a buddy as a last getaway trip before he gets married. Some friend are coming up Friday night.
We'll probably jig and troll for Kokanee, but does anyone have some tips one lures, depth, speed and time of day for the browns?:dancingman:

For kokanee in Suttle think small, at least this year. TONS of fish, on the small side. You won't feel guilty taking your 25 each per day! 1/4 oz castmasters in chrome, gold, chrome/blue or green, or small Gibbs minnows in pink/white or blue/white for jigs. You should see huge suspended schools at 25-30 feet, and lots of small schools on the bottom. Trolling, try the smallest hoockies and spoons (Vance's Sockeye Slammer, Dick Night, Triple Teaser, Needlefish, etc) behind a dodger.
Our best Suttle technique for limits of fish has been a small bait on a short leader below a jig, fishing schools hanging on the bottom. Use a stiff leader (10# flourocarbon) only 8-12" long to reduce tangles. Six pound test and long leaders will give you nothing but downtime untangling! Crawdad tail meat, periwinkles, scented corn, worms chunks, shrimp, pautski eggs all work. Roughly in that order. If they even breath on it, set the hook quick. They are very light biters.
Good luck and please report.

I wish I would have got your post, but I left before you posted. Anyway, trolling flasher w/wedding rings and worm and ball-o-fire, and then worm and corn, we got a dozen Friday and 18 on Sat morning. They are light biters, and a bit picky too.
I noticed that color seemed to matter. We would switch it up (red/green/pink) until they bit and then stick with what worked until it died off.
I am hardly patient enough to jig, but I noticed pockets of active biting fish that If I had the know-how, I am sure we could have done alright.
Anyhow, had a lot of fun and the fish are firm and great eating.
I noticed they don't vary more than a 1/2" in length.
Can't wait to go again!

Good going! Did you measure them? How deep did you fish?

No, I didn't measure them, but I would guess they were 9 to 9 1/2 inches?
We fished the northwest side along the bank in about 35 -50 feet of water and usually were anywhere from 25-35 feet deep. We were marking them at all depths though. We ran the entire lake, but found the best action there.
I really appreciate your advice, and may head up the weekend after next if it is not too late (6/23)
Did you measure tham last time you fished there?
