Here's the story ... it was too good to be true ... took out second time since having motor worked on ... great start, motored about eight miles up river, anchored up for shad, hit a few, repositioned a few times and got a few more, then after five hours on the river, picked up the anchor and started to run home ... didn't make it around the first bend of the river when the alarm and check engine light when on ... sure enough, same as before ... put throttle back in neutral, then tried to accelrate, no response. Turned off and waited a moment, then started it up, no problems, started off to get up on plane .... WWWWAAAaaaa ... alarm again ... shut down, waited a moment, cranked it on, started it up and off we went, never sounded again .... got short week, then we're off to get married and honeymoon, will have to wait till I get back .... so let's review - - - new plugs, new water pump, new fuel filter, new water/fuel seperator ... steady stream out the tell-tale ... no smoke, no excessive heat (to the touch) from the motor, no missing or chugging, no prop contstrictions, no intake issues ...
Today's thought: what if the thermostat is plugging or sticking ... when I start it up at the dock, warms up a bit, the water pump does seem to kick in with stronger stream after few minutes ... thinking about my father's motors, we've had a Honda's thermostat get completely filled in with salt, luckily it seized it open rather than closed ... so thinking about flushing with one of the salt-be-gone products ... I use mouse ears on the lower unit so not sure how effective that is ... any thoughts, experience to share, general pity for me ???

Salt X and salt terminator have worked well for me.You can get a little attachement that hooks to your flush kit.It also helps put a film on the parts to inhibit future corrosion.

It could be the sensor/sender for one of the monitored functions going-bad too.
