Going to be picking up an airmar p319 for my alumaweld. This is a through-hull type transducer and the thought of using one is very nerve racking.. To have to drill a hole in a perfectly good and water tight boat.

Is it possible to hook something onto the back of the boat so one wouldn't have to the hole inside where if it leaks it would be very very bad? or what?

Just looking for thoughts suggestions, ideas comments, reassurances. LIke I said, drilling a hole to put it in sounds like a not so good Idea.

But I really would like to get a better transducer for my lowrance and that is the one that airmar recomends for me.

Dave-
I guess I don't understand why you want to mount a thru hull transducer instead of a transom mount? I've got the p66, same power/frequency as the p319, only made for mounting on the transom. I guess it would be possible to fab some kind of bracket to mount the p319 on the transom, but why?

If you want me to send a pic of my p66 mount just let me know. I had to move it (horizontally and vertically) a couple times to get it to work at full speed. Since we have the same hull, seems like if you got a p66 I could give you the measurements and you'd get it right the first time

Where'd you get the p66 and what unit do you have on your boat? trouble is I need the old "grey" connector for the airmar which they don't make anymore (atlesat so I Was told) BUt I'd be more for the transom mount if I can get my hands on it.

it's for my lowrance lms 320. Or I just might bite the bullet and get a new color unit out.

When I took the boat out last week, the sonar pretty much sucked. Used to work at any speed. never lose bottom.. now it's having issues getting the bottom in 20ft of water, with nothing has chaned besides sitting for some months.

I've got a Garmin Blue 160. The P66 came with the unit.

So the LMS 320 with transom mount transducer (which one?) you have now worked fine last year? Did the settings get changed? Mount? Have you checked all the connections for corrosion?

Anyways, I'd try to find a p66 with the right connection for your unit before messing with the p319 :twocents:

Maybe someone with the Lowrance LMS 320 could be of more help.......

checked it all out. and everythign looks good. I did contact lowrance about it and they said it is probably the transducer but if I Want to pay for it they will test the unit itself to see if that is workign allright.

I'll see what I can find about the grey connecter p66.

One other thought, Dave.

The Lowrance LMS 320 is a 3000 watt peak to peak, 375 watt RMS unit that comes standard with a 200 khz 60 degree transducer (?)

The Garmin Blue 160 is a 4000 watt peak to peak, 500 watt RMS unit that comes with a duel frequency 50/200 khz 11/45 degree transducer (airmar p66).

Will plugging a duel frequency transducer into that Lowrance work (the p319 or p66)? A duel freqency transducer is definetly what you want for the salt water. I usually run mine on auto, but the 50 khz beam works best in the salt.

How was the fishing? Any 'buts?

it's a duel transducer. 50/200 so that isn't an issue.

Went out last week I think it was with tailchaser, caught buts nothing of any size though.
