I ask because after installing a trolling plate on my 1996 25hp 2stroke Merc,I'm getting 22mph with 2 adults and gear.I can troll at .8 mph with the plate and current prop but think it should have a better top speed.Anyone recommend prop pitch to get the best top speed for this application? Thanks
Does your trolling plate lock in the open postion or does it rely on water pressure to open it and keep open. And why isn't 22 mph enough? My wife has a fit when I go faster!

I have 25 Merc 2 stroke and with two people and gear I get about 22-24 MPH. i also installed a dol fin troll plate combo but rarely drop the plate as the Merc trolls amazingly slow with the plate up. I have considered trimming down my troll plate forn those rare times I have used it. I mainly troll with the Minkota 30 just because it is cheaper and easier. I also have trouble gettin the \Merc to slide into reverse most of the time. Hope this helps.

My 15' SS had a 25hp Yamaha on it. With 2 guys and gear we did high 20s.
The problem with a prop change is that to get higher speed you'll lose hole shot. Higher speed means more pitch and less acceleration.
Another thing to think about is how many rpms you're turning now. You might be too low or too high. Without a tach its a guessing game as to which way to go.
