A trip up to Lamiglas yesterday left me with many choices for a new bobber rod. It was very hard to choose one because they all had certain qaulitys about them that set them apart from each other.
One in perticular contender was the G-1344-T Kenai Force at 9 feet with a 15 to 40 lb line rating. The newer version had the graphite handle and felt realy nice but I still had an old friend I could not seem to get my mind off.
For alot of years I fished and tested my custom "Kinger" bobbers on an XS-101-MC that was a 10 ft, 1 peice surf rod. I fell in love with the rod because it was light and firm at the same time and had a VERY long 23 inch handle that tucked well under my arm for support the way I like to fish bobbers.

The choices abound but John pointed to the surf rods and suggested I take a look at them again to see what was new. Was not hard to pull my arm there having fished one of them for years as my primary bobber rod. I came across the XS-10-MHC, a 2 peice version of the 101-MC. It seemed just a bit larger looking but strangly it was lighter in feel. I fell in love all over again knowing I could take this 2 peice everywhere I go and still have the qaulitys I loved the most about the 101 MC I often fished before.

This rod had bobber fishing written all over it! 10 foot with backbone for a hookset. Long handle to tuck way back under my arm for support and cantalever type casting. Can throw 3 to 8 oz wich covers the 2 to 5 oz bobber realm perfectly. 17-40 lb line rating so you can fish 25 or 30 lb mono like I do. I would not be affraid to run 60 or 65 lb braid on this rod. It has a VERY strong reel seat that will hold up to heavy bobber punishment for many years. Has enough of a tip to still be able to cast and let me tell you this thing casts like a rocket. A nice thin cork wrapped handle adds a nice touch in feel and in looks. Large oversized guides allow the bobber knot to pass through freely when casting. The rod is U.S. made right here in Woodland Washington. Best of all I weighed the rod and the total weight was 3/4 of a lb!

The long handle gives you the ability for a sort of leverage/cantalever cast that I will show in upcoming videos relating to bobber fishing. This handle actually makes for a softer effortless launch that will not blow the bait off on long casts and at the same time allows a softer landing when it hits the water. I also believe that the longer handle adds balance to the length of the rod while fishing. The handle on this rod is #4 from the chart below. About 25 inchs to the reel seat.

I know that many folks do not like to fish these larger big gun bobbers rods. If you do then for all the right reasons you should check this rod out before you decide. The 10 footer gives you mass amounts of line control for mending to your bobber and gives you long distance hook setting power to behold. There is also one that is just a bit smaller if this one is not your style. I speak only the truth when I tell you I have whacked ALOT of spring kings with this series of LG surf rods. People used to come up to me and ask what that strange looking rod was and some even thought it was funny but over the years my good friends and partners came to appriciate what that ole rod had done for me before their very eyes so many times. If you realy want to set up a killer combo add an ABU Garcia C4 Elite 6500 on here. The faster gear ratio of the C4 makes for fast line pick up just before a hook set.
