Its such a nice day to get out in the boat, but still some work to do. I was looking for maint items to do as I was cleaning, preping and chaning oils on the boat. I noticed the wheel buddys. Now Ive packed quite a few bearings in my time working for Goodyear/Firestone for a number of years. Whats the purpose of a Bearing buddy??? Just becase you put a zert fitting in the bearing lock nut cover and pump grease this in likely not get packed in the bearing cage as should be applied and Surely will not get into the inner bearing at all... so whats the purpose... provide a super grease seal effect to keep water from seeping in???

The intent for the Bearing buddy is not to pack your berings but to keep pressure in the hub, i belive about 3lbs, as your traveling on hwy the hubs heat up, then dunked in cold water, thus draws a vacume and you get hub intrusion of water, the bearing buddys help eliminate intrusion. You must still disassemble the hubs and pack the bearings, anywhere from 1-3 years, depending on usage, and be sure and install new seals. I inject a little more pressure every trip.
There is a misconseption about the bearing Buddy packing the wheel bearings, not so!

Ok Captian... thanks for clearing that up... Ive heard some talk about how they give a few pumps every so often to pack the bearings.... and that just cant be so... I agree with you, it could help keep them isolated from the water..

Well, Im on the verge of getting a new trailer.. Ive got an old eazyloader that has the rollers... and really like seeing them folks who back there long running board style half way into the water and just ram there boats up on them runners... also the benefit of greater surface area... typically were in a hurry to launch the boat, so if I can just unhook and back down, float, and leave, Id love that... but Im sure a new trailer is $$$$$ so its still a ways out...
