There are coyotes right across the river and our chickens are loose and Bill is going to get the thirty ott six, whatever that is and shoot to scare them! I want to shoot it and he won't let me!
What is a thirty ott six?

30'06, Jen it is sorta bad a... rifle. one of the most prevelant rifles. It started out as a military cartridge, then evolved into a hunting round.

Many other cartridges evolved from the 30'06 some faster and some more powerful. The noise will scare everything in your little piece of heaven.

I didn't like it at all....!
Big noise...
I know what they are now, and they are staying in the closet. I'll just put the chickens away next time!!!
That gun is heavy! You should see the torpedo like bullets that go in it!
YUCK!

Jennie,
If you want to get rid of those coyotes, I will do it for you. A deer in distress call, a 12 guage shotgun loaded with #4 buckshot does wonders on those nasty critters. Or you can just leave some salmon guts out where they will find them. That will poison them.

i LOVVVEEEE my 30'06 best gun I have ever shot. Except for elk season. The scope got banged and its off a long ways. So the guy that took us out let me use his weatheryby ( spelling? ) 3378 with a boss recoil system. BIG GUN ! ! it only holds 2 rounds because the caseing are HUGE! images/icons/shocked.gif anyway to make a long story short the gun kicked the living crap outa me. But I killed the elk images/icons/smile.gif images/icons/smile.gif images/icons/grin.gif images/icons/shocked.gif

Believe this if you will, but the best way to keep critters from your yard is to have a man "mark his territory", so to speak. Have him hit some of the landmarks of the property that won't whither and die from it and dogs (and their cousins) and cats will stay away. Neighbors might look at ya funny if you've got neighbors, so maybe you just put it in an old pitcher or something so they think you are watering the rocks.

Laugh if you will, but it works. And at least I'm not asking you to have him rub his gonads up against the trees or something. images/icons/wink.gif

I know you my not like it but even if you put the chickens away what will they go after next some ones cat or dog they love cat bellies as do seals love salmon bellies. Just shooting at them just makes them more a night time animal where they can do their killing with out you knowing tell its to late. Some time’s thing need to be done that we really don’t like but to benefit other's we need to put away what we fell is right or wrong and look at what it might cost many others.
Jennie
this might be too much but have you ever seen what they do to a fawn not after it has born but while it is still coming out. They let the doe get half way then they go in and rip it the rest of the way out. Not what you call a pretty site just go over to eastern Oregon in the next couple weeks or more and fined a herd of does and sit and watch. You will be going for that 30.06 faster then you think

Willierower
They live on the river they eat that stuff all the time that is why the are still a live and beside have you seen what that make’s an animal go through not a pretty sight

Make it swift and clean

By just scaring them off all you're doing is chasing them down the road to torment some other peoples cats/dogs/chickens/ducks. Trust me you won't be hurting the general coyote population if you kill a couple. I know in WA that the season is open year round on them as long as you have a hunting license. At least it was a few years ago.
One word of advice on the call. I've called bears in this way, and I've heard of people calling cougars in this way as well. You'll definately want a big enough gun to do the job. 30-06 is one of my favs. Another person might not hurt, I've had bears sneak around me before checking things out. It's amazing how quiet such a large animal can be in the woods when they want to be. About 15 yards away in the brush and hardly a noise. Gave me the willies. images/icons/shocked.gif

Jen, I think I have a leg hold trap that you can use if you want. Don't know if they are illegal now or not. Used to do some trapping when I was a kid. As long as there are no domestic dogs, it will help solve the cyote problem..

Hey Jen,
I have a 223 that loves to put holes in coyotes. This rifle is set up specifically for shooting critters such as coyotes and we can reach out and touch em from a long ways away. Just let me know

I do belive that the fish and game departments actually encourage you to kill these things. Along with crows. My choice for coyotes.. remmington semi automatic 30.06 or my bolt action but its a little to slow. If all else fails then I just use the .22... or the mossburg 12 ga. images/icons/smile.gif

The only good Coyote is a dead one images/icons/rolleyes.gif
We've been getting terrorized by a pack of these rascals for 3 years now, lost our mamma cat ,plus a few from the neighbors too.

Any one want come on out, heck I'll buy the ammo.

I don't want to kill all of em...I just want them to leave and bother someone else.....on second thought.......Nuke em!!!!....Os

One of the best calls I've used ....is just meowing like a cat.
problem with this is...Redneck keeps showing up images/icons/tongue.gif

Jen,

Let me know if you need your property 'marked'. I'm pretty good at that and my 2 year old loves a good nature wizz.

I'd much rather have a pack of yotes running around in place of cats... images/icons/tongue.gif

Sorry, too late.
I have decided to make them pets.
They are all out back now, eating purina coyote chow and chewing on squeak toys... Oops, those are my chickens.
