Lately I have been having a problem with my tilt/trim, When I am trying to move it either way, I get an intermittent pause and clicking noise. If I release the button, and re-engage it....the tilt/trim usually works correctly. A co-worker has suggested maybe it is the brushes inside the motor itself ( since it does this whether tilting or trimming). So, this weekend I am going to open things up and look for loose connections, corroded brushes, wires, etc. I just wanted to see If any of you guys have gone through this...and could relay any "do's and don'ts"......

Tight Lines this weekend!!

Probably have a loose/dirty connection on the trim system or battery cables. Don't take anything apart until you check the basic stuff first.

It could be the tilt/trim relays. Usually it will work fine one direction, but not the other though, unless both are going bad. They are fairly cheap though. Mine were about $14 each on a '94 Force(merc).

Ive had to replace the relays on my 88 115 hp a couple times over the years.Getting ready to do it again.Mine is only used in the salt though.I have to clean the connections once in a great while also. That should be your first step.

I use corrosion blockers,salt x etc.It helps but isnt a cure all.
