I was planning on fishing the rogue river weekend after next and would like some info. I called up Jot's resort and they said that fishing has been sporadic at best. However, after reading TH's and Starr's report, it seems like it is kicking out some nice springers. I plan on fishing the Quosatana creek area but if any of you say I should fish somewhere else I am more than happy to reconsider locations. Any techs or info would be much appreciatted either through posting on the topic or through email. I have been told to always anchor up on the inside of a river bend in about 2-6 feet of water and fish spinners or anchovies but with this clear low water I was curious if the same tactics would be used. Thanks for all the help...

I will be fishing the Rogue Wed and Thur. Know of a few caught today, but nothing to get all fired up about. I'll report as events occur.

I do know that there are substantial numbers of fish in certain parts of the river, but biting is a fickle thing.

Good morning,
I talked to my uncle (who is a guide and is on the water a lot) he said that it has been off and on from the Canery Hole down. 20-30 fish caught one day at the Rock, and then nothing the next.
He had heard of a good bite at the mouth of the Illionis this weekend, water is 62 degrees in the lower river...
Most of the fish were caught on straight anchovies... or straight spinners..
The water level is up, we'll see what the larger tides next week bring in?

Keep us posted...

TH, with the water temp being 62 is your uncle using different tactics (i.e.-fishing deeper water)? Also, when you say "the rock do you mean Elephant rock? Thanks all for the info and I will be sure to post the results in detail after we return. I will be fishing with Ifish members Birdhunter and Ayefish that weekend. If you see us out there. Be sure to say hi!!!

Not doing much different from years past... the moss is terrible right now, so make usre you are checking you gear on a regular basis.

They did pick up a few fish trolling onthe flat above Woodruff riffle last week, that was new, but once everyone saw they caught fish it was swamped with boats..

You will want to target water that is 6 feet deep or more, but still on the edges.. once the sun comes up the fish will move inside and run deeper..
Woodruff up to Elephant rock, the Birthday hole, Johns hole, and the cainery hole will all produce fish on good tides... early in the mroning.. its hard to pick fish up in the middle of the day!
Get their early.
Good luck...

TH,

I really appreciatte your help so far with regards to the info that you have given me. I do however have a couple more questions for you. I have never fished for springers on the rogue....just the fall chinook and coho. The area that you are talking about is the lower five or six miles correct? Are there any campgrounds in that area? I was looking into the Quosatana campground area above lobster creek about two miles. Are you familiar with the fishing in that area (it is at about mile marker 13)? Would you suggest that we fish lower? This is pretty much going to be a learning experience for my buddies and I. I am just trying to get in any last information that I can. I looked at the tides and it seems to be that some larger tides are going to be on the weekend that we are there so that is definitely a good thing. Thanks again for any and all of your help TH. You can email me if you do not wish to post any information. Also, are you going to be fishing the rogue the weekend of the 18-20th? If so we will be sure to look for you. Thanks again TH.

Hey coot22 glad to help, the Rogue is a wonderful river and should be enjoyed by all.

Quosatana creek camp ground is a great place to camp, I'm not sure about the mile marker, ??
I do 99% of my springer fishing on the lower 5 miles, If it were me, I would drive down and put in at the harbor and motor up until you found a spot that looked promising.. as you motor (slowly) up you will notice that the boats will be lined up almost in a direct line up through the river (although different hog lines) you will be able to pick the path of the fish (or what the fisherman think is the path)
Quosatana creek also has some good water to fish, just pick an inside spot out of the channel in 6-12 ft of water and anchor up, watch for moving fish and other fisherman.. if someone above or below you catches a fish, make sure your boat is somewat close to the line they are fishing..,

Good luck, keep us posted!

fished Graves Creek area today. Lost two, but that was it. Didn't see any others caught either. The flow has come up dramatically since the weekend, doing something weird to the fish. There were fish rolling everywhere before, today I saw only two. The flow forecast is to remain the same or maybe a little higher at least thru the 12th. Higher water usually surges them through, but this time its seems to have flushed them out. It's just a matter of time...

I just got back Monday night from a 6 day trip on the Rogue. The fishing wasn't great by any means even with fish milling nearby at different tides. I never saw very many fish caught and most days was almost a bust. We worked hard for the 4 fish we came home with and with warmer water temps the fish just stopped bitting. I'd expect the water temps to continue to rise with warm temperatures on the coast and the Medford area, which really makes fishing tough. The moss and weeds are really bad and TH is right, you'll need to check your hooks often. TH has already provided you with some good ideas.

If I can help with any further questions, just email me.
