I have done a search on boat flooring and will be looking for some smooth aluminum for my 15' smokercraft. I am a DIY kind of guy so where can I get some in the Salem area?

I would check with different mfg you may beable to buy scraps or even some actual composite type flooring. Hope this helps.

Just a little comment on "smooth aluminum", this would be a mistake, did the same once upon and floor was like snot slippery just with water let alone fish slime. If you are still wanting aluminum try Pacific Metals in tigard, they have some rem pcs, but beware aluminum is way pricey now.
Hope this helps,Dave:twocents:

i agree with mary no way would i want smooth alum for a floor, easy to clean up but just a matter of time before someone slipped & got hurt or dunked overboard, far too great a risk.

I have a smooth aluminum floor covered with truck bed liner and it is the cats meow in my book. Best darn boat floor I have ever had. Mine is very non skid but without the liner it would not be much fun.

We put carpet over our diamond plate floor.
It is easy to clean.
Cheap and easy to replace when necessary(Probably every couple years for us, but I am hard on stuff, fish quite a bit, and a slob).
Offers better traction than either wood or aluminum (Had pretty much every combination of flooring at one time or another. Carpet is the poo poo).
Softer on the back(You cripples out there can probably relate) too.
Softer to walk around in bare footed.

If I had to do it over again, I would dump the diamond plate, and go with smooth aluminum with carpet over it.

I had a smooth aluminum floor in an old boat I had.
I put down a few rows of non skid tape that worked awesome.Clean the surface and the tape lasts almost forever. You can find it at most hardwares.Either rolls of 2 inch or I have found sheets that are about 6"x24"

I didnt cover the whole floor.Just put it down in strips where the most foot traffic was at.Left gaps between the strips.

Worked great.Cleaned easy.Looked decent.Cheap upgrade.

In my old boat I put down some thin diamond plate (scrap from Pacific Metals near PDX airport). It was a little slick so I took my belt sander with some 25 grit for 2 minutes and roughed up the raised "diamond". Great traction, looked fantastic and easy to clean.

Alaska Copper and Brass is in SE PDX. Non skid is grit of some sort (can be sand, ground walnut shells or ground rubber). Spinkle it in wet paint, them cover with two more coats of paint so it is not too rough, easy to clean and durable. If you use sand it will be longlasting but abrasive.

The tape works good too.
