Favorite monofilament line for both casting and spinning.
Winter steelhead
Summer steelhead
Fall Chinook
Spring Chinook
Coho.
I like Maxima Chameleon and Ultragreen for casting reels and Trilene XT for spinning reels. I also use Chameleon for tying tapered fly fishing leaders.

Winter Steelhead 8# Maxima Chameleon, Summer 6 to 4 # Maxima Chameleon, Salmon #25 Maxima Chameleon. I also like to use braided line for salmon from my drift boat Sturgeon from a Boat #80 tuff-line. I only fish with a bat casting rod and reel.

I like to keep it simple, I do most of my fishing from my DB:
Springers - 20# Stren thin diameter w/15# Maxima Chameleon leader for divers and bait or pulling plugs. Braided line w/15# Maxima Chameleon leader for back-bouncing.
Summers - 20# Stren thin diameter w/6#-8# Maxima Chameleon leader.
I don't do to much fall/winter fishing on account I'm usually to busy hunting.

I like maxima ultra green.
Bill doesn't like Stren, but I find it easy to see when I fish for trout and stuff.

DK yes absolutely I have had the memory problem with Ultra Green. I've abanboned it for spinning reels and gone to Trilene. I'll use it on casting reels but prefer Chameleon
12lb for winters w/10lb leader.

use maxima chemeleon on just about everything except my bobber rods they have tuf line on them. Cant beat maxima for strength and durability.
Dont like stren on a casting reel and have had bad luck when I tried trilene so I stick to the ole stand bye Maxima. Will use ultragreen once in awhile

Maxima Chameleon, ultragreen when you want to risk a break off... tried the rest but max is the best

I've always used Maxima, simply because my Dad used it. But a friend got me some 12# line called Steel Thread. I like it alot better than Maxima. Still like to use ultra green Maxima on my leaders though.

I've heard from RT that Ande tournament is good line does anyone use it? How about Izor? I saw Jennie lose a fish on some flourcarbon stuff so that scares me. Anyone remember Maxima Super-Soft? I lost one of the bigger steelhead I've ever hooked on the Grays River many years ago because it stretched and broke! Could have been an isolated incident but it happened to another guy in the same way on a snag. Anyway That's probably why Maxima abandoned it.

Ande does make an excellent line, and at 60% the cost of Maxima. I can honestly say it has worked as well as maxima for mainline. Anybody out there ever heard of McCoy line? I used it for a time, and found it to be similar to Ande and maxima, at least in the larger diameters (15lb. and up). I, for one, refuse to get all caught up in the flourocarbon, izorline B.S. If one of the three (monofilaments) above doesn't get it for you, you have other issues! Still prefer (old habits die hard) ultragreen for leaders. Peace all.

I noticed at Fisherman's today that Maxima has a new line. Supposed to be thinner, stronger, and limper than regular. Too bad I just filled the new setup.
Winter Steelhead:
Trilene Big Game
Summer Steelhead:
Maxima Ultra Green or Ande Green
Spring Chinook:
Trilene Big Game
Fall Chinook:
Trilene Big Game
Coho:
Maxima Ultra Green or Ande Green
All Leaders I like to use Maxima either Chameleon or Ultra green, depending on water conditions or my mood. images/icons/grin.gif

I've been using Stren magna-thin now for two seasons on springers, 20# is the same diameter of normal mono's. I was skeptical at first, been a Maxima guy for a long time but I have had very good luck with this line, anybody else been using it?

Maxima Chameleon and Ultragreen for big game. Trilene XL of the trout/panfish setups on spinning reels. The memory is horrible on Maxima, but it's a small price to pay when you have that big boy on and its running you against a log or something. I use Maxima only on my casting setups, it sucks on spinning reels.
Worst mono outside of that .99 cent private label junk (you'd have to have the better half of your brain removed to ever use it), is Spiderwire mono. No abrasion resistance and it has to have a lower breaking strength than it's rated. I borrowed some 20# leader from a freind that was using it and I broke off a nice springer. The same day he broke an 8# steelhead off the same line. Absolute junk.

Fall/spring salmon
50lb green tuff line
20lb leader drifting
30lb bobber/plugs
Bank sturgeon
30/40lb big game it's the best and tried the rest. Don't fool with braided lines from the bank no abraision resistance. I have learned the hard way.
90 lb mono leader
Winter steel
12/10 big game main
10/8 leader
still learning in this Dept.

trolling, plunking, backbouncing for salmon
30 lb tuff line
casting for salmon 17lb-25lb maxima or trilene big game size depends on whether its fall or spring/summer fish. Baitcast reels only. Maxima does suck on a spinning reel.
steelhead 12 pound maxima winter fish, 8-10 pound for summer fish in either chameleon or ultragreen I almost always use the ultragreen for leaders.
Sturgeon
keepers 30lb tuffline
oversized 50-80lb tuffline
I use a piece of nylon leader for my weight slider to wear on and almost always avoid tying the superbraid lines directly to my terminal tackle..this virtualy eliminates the abrasion problem. this works for salmon too. It also provides a little shock absorber to help with the overly aggressive hookset and doesnt significantly change the feel of the bite. Whenever conditions permit I go to this setup because of the small diameter of the tuffline allowing you to use smaller leads and lighter gear

McCoy is a great line with great abrasion resistance as is Maxima. I also have had great results with izorline. For spinning reels I prefer the McCoy. Trilene has let me down before as has Ande (tournament is the best Ande product). The new fluorocarbons have not fared well for me. The new Berkley fluorocarbon is next to worthless as it snaps on the hookset even when much to much time consuming effort has gone into the perfect knot. I'd stick with McCoy, Izor or Maxima. Another useful line is the ultra limp charterboat for salmon leaders. Tie nice long leaders of charterboat for the finicky days. (It is way too stretchy for mainline use.) Good luck to everyone!
