I have heard of good sized crappies in hagg
lake. Is there a known area where to fish them? The west end would be the area to find weed beds and shallow warmer water. Just wondering if any one has some ideas.

Sorry, I've only fished Hagg once. Would like to fish it more though. If you find anything out let me know. I love Crappie fishing.

I will let you know where the slabs are! I plan to make a trip this weekend to hagg and chase after them.

Its been about ten years since I fished Hagg but if I remember correctly the Seine creek arm of the lake produced the best for me. Big bass, trout, crappie and blue gill. Good luck.

The Tanner Creek arm is generally good but the south west side is too. In the past we caught the most off the Seine Creek area. My son and his buddies have been fishing Scoggins Creek area and knocking big trout, 15 to 21 inches. Water is very very low. He said that the usual spots, are high above the water. We live out here and fish it a lot, but this year will be a hard one. My usual early smallmouth locations have changed. Good luck. images/icons/frown.gif

hawgcatcher, I've fished Hagg quite a bit in past years with my kids. The wife will go out in lakes but not rivers. I've seen large trout taken but haven't had the pleasure myself. Are you guys plunking or trolling for them. I'd like the wife to hook into a nice fish. If trollin, are you using spin glow, wedding rings, bait such as worms, HOW DEEP etc.
I have caught some nice bass in the grass and weeds and 1 moster yellow belly catfish out of there plunking worms by the new Gazebo.
I catch and release most fish out of Hagg. ODFW tested a hole two years ago and 56 out of 100 fish had cancers. I guess this may be caused by all the motor oil floating on the lake by the end of the season.
Any comments are welcome.

KarenLee,
All these big trout have been caught from shore with powerbait globs. These are those wild color ones. Most of these have been in the late afternoon and evening hours.
I am not a trout fisherman but bass. However, I have been known to even fish for carp when things are slow. My son seems to like trout, so he fishes for them.
I think that Hagg has some problems with the health of the fish, but I usually release all my fish. (except a juicy salmon or two)
I love a day on this lake with a small spinner or grub and the smallmouth chasing them. When they are hot, I use ultra lite spinning gear and no more then four pound line. This hurts when you hook a 4 # or bigger fish and he gets into cover but that is what fishing is all about.
I hope that you are able to get some fish. Enjoy life and fishing while you can.

BIGSTEW,, i have been around ever since that lake went in. Its my understanding that the bass and trout were planted but that the other species were placed in the lake by fisherman who wanted them to reproduce so they could fish for them. I have no official word on this, just rumor that has been passed on for years. Iam not sure what all is in the lake. Smallmouth, Bigmouth, Trout,Crappie,Pearch, other than that i dont know of any others.Cagey.

BIGSTEW-
Cagey is correct. All of the warmwater species were illegally introduced by anglers who thought the lake showed promise for more that just a stocked trout fishery (we consider it an act of civil disobedience in this case images/icons/smile.gif).
Considering the lake has produced the last three state record smallmouth bass, provides buckets of yellow perch, slab crappie (when you can find 'em) and outstanding dog-day catfishing, it would seem they were right.
Oh, yeah, and there's some trout fishing available, too ....
