Anybody here do their own motor work?? On your outboards?? No questions about mechanics...I was just wondering how many mechanically inclined people are watching.

I do all my work on my inboard, kicker and pump. Also work on all my cars and also weld steel and just started welding aluminum. I hate to pay someone to fix anything of mine. I tried it once and it was a mess.

I just did a front brake job on my 99 Dodge (integrated bearings in the rotors). Paying a mechanic doesn't sound too bad after that fiasco. I wonder what the engineer that came up with that idea makes per year...

I do the minor stuff - spark plugs, oil changes, etc. I thought that was the whole purpose of having members of society good at mechanics - so idiots like me can pay them for doing what they do best. I'm not offended at all by acknowledging that someone else knows motors a hell of a lot better than me.

I do all mine work on the Boat and Cars as well. Not that I have all the time in the world, it's just that I would rather make time for doing it once right than having to take it in over and over and over.......
Actually, if I I'm not pressured to get it done I enjoy it. On the other hand, if it's in the critical path to a weekend trip and it's Thursday night...... Keep the small children away, they might learn a few new words. ARGH!
