Seems like just yesterday, the 90's but now its 2007 and not so far off from a whole new decade. I have been taking photos for as many years as I can remember and somehow every new decade close's a kind of chapter for me in my photo book of angling life. Looking through my book and what seems to be hundreds of photos from the 90's I found alot of fond memorys I hoped to not forget by either taking or having someone take pictures.

It was in the early 90's that I started to catch more then my share of salmon and steelhead in many great places that may or may not still exist today. I bet many of you will recognize and remember things shown here. I must have gotten around alot in those years because now most of my photos come from just a few key locations or maybe those fisherys are just not there anymore. Here are some of my scans from before the digital revolution.

Local Fisherman News cover 1999

First Eagle creek coho on the fly rod 1991. I look like a little kid! OMG! Fish was released in hopes for a brighter one.

Salmon River steel on a fly rod 1992. The river that I learned to fly fish for steelhead on.
http://www.ifish.net/gallery/data/500/medium/salmonriver92.jpg

There were some great springer years in the early 90's on the Clackamas river! 1993 Bobber and Egg with shrimp under the 205 bridge. I saw in upwards of 20 fish come out of that hole some days.
http://www.ifish.net/gallery/data/500/medium/clackspring293.jpg

I caught a 14 lb summer run steelhead 3 casts before the nooker below it on a 3 0z bobber and eggs system with a cocktail! Someone had laughed at my little green steelhead net since they thought there was only nooks in the hole. I must admit so did I but look what happened! Both landed in that little green net and boy did I have a grin..Someone else did not  1993
http://www.ifish.net/gallery/data/500/medium/clacksummer93.jpg

A total of about 10 casts? The day was done! YES!:food:

A Wilson river winter nook from 1994 My father took the photo.
http://www.ifish.net/gallery/data/500/medium/winternook94.jpg

November used to be an awsome month for Collowash and upper Clackamas summer steel with night crawlers, they would swin 12 feet or even up to the surface to take the weightless crawler fished on light spinning tackle. 1994
http://www.ifish.net/gallery/data/500/medium/colowashsummer94.jpg

A float trip on the Kilchis in March of 1994 or 95 landed me one of my largest steelhead ever.
http://www.ifish.net/gallery/data/500/medium/bigsteelhead.jpg

While C&R angling in tidewater for chums in 1995 I caught this male nooker by accident in Tillamook, what a bummer? This one was released. Was not the last time this happened either
http://www.ifish.net/gallery/data/500/medium/miaminook95.jpg

OOPS! did it again, 2 chromer nookers full of sea lice caught C&R fishing for tidewater chums with eggs the very next year in 1996.
http://www.ifish.net/gallery/data/500/medium/miaminook96.jpg

Another great year for Clack springers. This hawg was caught with the 3 0z bobber system, again a cocktail fished at 16 feet in the middle of the day. 1996
http://www.ifish.net/gallery/data/500/medium/clackspring96.jpg

The good ole days at Sandy rivers pipeline hole during the late February native cycle. 1996
http://www.ifish.net/gallery/data/500/medium/pipeline96.jpg

The Necanicum river on Oregons coast was an awsome steelhead stream in the 90's. Winter 95 0r 96..
http://www.ifish.net/gallery/data/500/medium/necanicum97.jpg

A nice summer day on the Big C I landed and released this nice 56 inch fish. 1997. A home recipe pickled squide did the trick.
http://www.ifish.net/gallery/data/500/medium/bigcgator97.jpg

A trip to Vancouver Island B.C. to fish with bobber and eggs turned out to be great! Stamp river B.C. early 1997

Sandy springer, bobber and eggs with shrimp and you guessed it a 3 oz bobber system..1997

I am so glad I always had a camera in my pocket. Now I can always look back at these days and the people that shared them with me.

Mike Braun has been a very big part of PGP and I can ssure you we will see more of him in coming films. On many of the days shown in the pics above, the photos where shot by him. We have been fishing together for 17 years now and so I want to show a few of him that I shot over these years.

I scanned some for him that I took on some of the same days and omg you thought my hair was funny, check out the hat selection!:D

The day I met Mike Braun he caught about 15 steelhead on a fly rod with yarn in a hole that his family has since purchased. I knew I had to get to know this guy and we have been hanging out fishing since. He showed me the ropes and help me to become a better angler as well as a better fly angler. He is the best small stream steelheader I have ever known but he is far to humble and he is always willing to help others or answer questions about fishing. Gotta love the hat and gloves

Mike on salmon river 1992 This day between us we took 19 steelhead, 3 huge trout, and about a half dozen mondo whitefish. I have one from this day shown above. There was spawn feed in the river from older springers. We have only toped this day with steel in Oregon together one other time. The glo bugs where sure workin that day!
http://www.ifish.net/gallery/data/500/medium/mikesalmonr92.jpg

Mike took me to the trask river for my first time and they where thick in the narrows from a heavy rain. Moslty throw backs but what a day! Caught my largest nook ever that day at around 45 lbs. He is shown here getting ready to release a SOLID 50 lb'er...1994
http://www.ifish.net/gallery/data/500/medium/miketrask94.jpg

Chromer Steel with sea lice. Only caught a few but man where they bright! Klaskanine river 1995
http://www.ifish.net/gallery/data/500/medium/mikeklasc95.jpg

Somewhere around 95 or 96 Mike was on workmans comp after a major arm injury. He had a full cast and could not move the elbow at all. The run was just way to hot for him to take anymore and could not stay at home so he decided he would not bobber fish and he would try to fish a spot close to the bank with a drift rod. Sure enough he nailed this lil springer and I landed it for him. I remember joking with him "its a good thing it was not a big one" I was amazed he pulled this off...
http://www.ifish.net/gallery/data/500/medium/mikeclack96.jpg

From the same Kilchis float trip that got me the big natived shown above..Look at the size of this trout that nailed his eggs:ooo:

Been fun Mike, glad I had these and thanks for all the ones you took for me over the years

I spent a great deal of time working the Sandy with that 3 oz system through the 90's. Made alot of friends and caught alot of nookers. Many days we would release as many as 10 fish and take 1 home for the table. People used to ask me why the heck do you let them go and I would say because I can only learn so much if I take 2 and go. My mission was to realy learn the art of float fishing in this mannor. I always made an effort to teach those folks that where not happy with the way I fished and after a time they would be thankful for what I showed them and start tagging more fish for their table and thats realy all they wanted. Some more random memorys follow below.

A few photos from the Sandy river springer runs in the mid 90's

The Other people I fished with and few more of mine :lurk: 5/11/07

I forgot about this LFN cover from 99...I recently talked with Ray Arkus the new owner of the publication and when I looked back through some of the articles I had done for the LFN I saw this one..I had saved copys of all of them. I had done the Late Season Hatchery Fish Opportunities article. I am also posting a few more of my photos below but I wanted to share some of the photos of the other people I fished with in the 90's.

Buckly Jenkins..At the time was my father inlaw. A Sandy river local that learned the art of 3oz float fishing very well in the 90's when Marmot was loaded. I have alot of pics like this of this feller...97?
http://www.ifish.net/gallery/data/500/medium/buckj1.jpg

Richard Paridzinski AKA Bank Maggot. Known by MANY as a teach and mentor and tackle rep for several now huge companys....notice the Lamiglas hat. He was often called a big mouth but I took him to Marmot a few times in the 90's to fish with the bobbers I was producing [shown in photo] and he never onced burned me on my testing locations..He always kept his word with me. I also did Oxbow Park winter clinics with him that he put on himself. After he passed on that was the end of the clinics. He was an awsome angler to say the least. R.I.P old friend : (
http://www.ifish.net/gallery/data/500/medium/richp97.jpg

My first fishing partner in life Chris Heideman came to Oregon a few times to visit me after we both moved to new states. On one trip to the trask his day was made with this 38 lb hen with lice all over it. Chris is a very tall man to give you an idea of the size of the fish. It was hung on the guide shops scale to get that number. A happy camper:applause:

Dan Forrest..Used to do mass egg cure batchs with this fella after the tribes pulled the nets out. He would clean their fish for the eggs..A big job but then we would fill a ping pong table with eggs and call me in the middle of the night and screen for HELP! lol He is a Sandy river local. 95 or 96

Chris Fox..childhood friend. His first anything! lol 97
