View Full Version : Poor Wind River Catches

An article in today's Columbian newspaper points out a possible reason for the sub-par fishing thus far at the mouth of the Wind River. Biologists suspect that because of the clarity of the main Columbia the Wind fish are not induced to come into the green Wind River water and are remaining out in the Columbia (where the 2-3 Indian boats we all watch trolling "sporting" gear are doing pretty danged well). If this is true, the biologists believe that the Wind River fish may stay out there until May, when they will head on in in a rush. Wouldn't you like to be trolling the racetrack then!

Hi Thumper,
Man was it a tough week. We fished 6 days and caught 6 Springers, 7 if you count the one Paul snagged in the tail. We let that one go but it still finned us off by taking the mag wart with him. Did you hook that fish we saw you fighting with the glow trebles? I will be back Tuesday morning chasing em again. images/icons/grin.gif

That fish was on a electronic flashing mag wart imitation (available at Fisherman's Marine) covered with, would you believe it, Preparation H. Weird world isn't it?

Prep H. has either achovie or shark in it, I can't remember.. It was the hot rub for G spot spinner blades and Kfish on the Rogue a few years back. Entire town of Gold beach was out for weeks.. The stuff works...
Hey Fear No Fish...This is "Go Vikings!" I switched down to Cathlamet for Thursday and Friday and picked up 8 fish. Will be back up to the Wind like you on Tuesday. Would sure like to know which Biologist talked about the water clarity theory, cuz I talked to one on Monday telling him that I believed that to be the problem and could they please extend the boundary out 100 yards. Of course the answer was no but if you don't ask you never get anything! Anybody know what the preliminary predictions for next years springer season is??

Hey FNF and Thumper you know the wind is slow. I fished the bouy line this morning for 3.5 hours and saw 0 fish caught, saw 1 caught by the spring and 1 down at the depot. Spent six days on the wind and hooked 3 fish. I'll be back Thursday and Friday all we can do is hope the fish move in, we need a little more rain to put some color in the water.
