Let's get in on this! I would love to participate!
I got this in the mail and I think it's a grand idea! Anyone want to take a soldier fishing?
I asked Airborne a while back if he might be interested in something like this, and he took me up on it! YAY!
What do you think? Anyone have an open seat? I asked him to tell us a little about them. The reply is below.

Hey Jennie,

I thought I would let you know that we Oregon Soldiers will be returning from Afghanistan (Yes-- a few will not be coming home. :( ) around the middle of June, and there are a few of us who are members of ifish.
I thought it would be great if anyone wanted to take a joe fishing for the day. They could post a thread and I could pass the information on my end here.
There are over 1000 guys and gals coming back but only a handful that I think woud be interested.
A little about us:
We are the 41st Infantry based out of the Portland area, but our unit is comprised of soldiers thru out the entire state and parts of Wa. I will put the word out here, with no promises made-- and let the guys know the website and how to post/reply. We have been conducting operations across the entire country of Afghanistan.
Some had easy jobs while others were as remote as can be. I lived on a forward operating base for 2+ months wtih no running water, no bathroom, no place to shower, and the only food we had was what we cooked ourselves. We got resupplied from our main base, and or had sent in from the states ie friends and family. Glad I'm not there anymore!
My job is called E.T.T. (embedded tactical trainer) I live with the afghan soldiers and train them how to survive on the modern battlefield, basically how to shoot, move and communicate.
I am so glad you will post something, thanks and let me know if you have any ideas you want me to do on my end.

Roland

Thanks Jennie! I'll offer a seat or two, most likely on the North or South Santiam River in a driftboat. Truck departing out of the Salem area. Gas, coffee, and basic gear (poles and some tackle ) provided. These Soldiers and I share the same employer ;) I'm certainly no steelhead-pro but it's always good to get out on the water with someone who shares similar values. :applause: SOLDIERS - PM me!

Hey guys, those are great offers! If you have trouble filling those seats (I know its hard to believe) I know a couple of Redmond soldiers we could take down the Deschutes. I have a 17ft driftboat, and familiar with fishing Harpham to Macks, but new to drifting it. So I would like to buddy up with another boat.

Jennie,

I dont think this counts, but I drove down to Truckee, CA for Thanksgiving. I'm meeting my little brother here to fly fish the Little Truckee for a couple days. The only reason I say something is because he has been going on and on about how bad he wants to fish since returning from Iraq. Being prior military myself, I know how much the "little" things mean when your over in theater like he was fighting for our country. I've been out for four years, and I will be the first to say that we civilians take the "little" things for granted far to often. If anyone reading this gets the opportunity to take a soldier fishing... jump on it!!! It might not seem like much to bring someone onboard the boat, or let 'em hitch a ride in your rig... but you'd be amazed at how much it means to 'em... especially the soldiers just getting back on home soil. I send my personal thanks to anyone that has and/or will take a soldier fishing!!!

Jennie:
I can take two in the Portland area for trout, bass, or the tail-end of the springer season (if it is still open then). I have all the tackle.

Hi Jennie!
I am new...so this is my first post.
The "post-dates" seem a bit "old;" but I will still try to garner some interest?!
I am in the North Whidbey Island area (subject to change as I am "Travelin' Trailer Trash"...a full-time Rv'er), and would consider it a great honor to share my (near sporting goods/boat dealer inventory?! ) with both active duty, retired...especially disabled vets!!!
I have MS; but am very active...so all my "stuff" tends to be very "accessible/user-friendly" for those with disabilites.
I am a fly-fisherman but my "flats-type" 17' skiff is equipped for gear-fishing (Scotty downriggers, bait-casting/trolling/mooching rods, etc.)...and I have a plethora of fly-fishing gear, including rods, reels (of many weights), catarafts, float-tubes, etc.
S-o-o-o...!!!
ATTENTION VETERANS AND ACTIVE DUTY!!
...If anyone is interested, I am "ready, willing and able" to SERVE YOU!
Thank you for YOUR SERVICE...and God's  blessing and protection!

Careful...it IS "explosive!"

I have one or two seats available for fly fishing (or gear if you prefer) on the Cascade Lakes in Central Oregon. Weekends are best for me. Crane Prairie rainbows, Davis bass, Wickiup Browns! What are you waiting for? Please reply by PM. Can provide transportation from Bend, boat, tackle, food, beverage etc for any veterans or active duty soldiers.

Thanks,
John

Hey, count me in, I have a driftboat and fish East Lake, Lava Lake, Hosmer and Diamond, Fall and Crooked river's, ladies invited as well, fish with your husband ( wife), boy friend ( girl friend) or a very married gentlemen ( ME) Out of town? Make your way to Sunriver before the snow falls and the room is on us. Rather try a one person pontoon boat, I have two, help yourself. I am no guide, but I am retired and fish these water often.
