Last week I said that I was going to put away the 8 weight and concentrate on trout....well that was short lived :smirk: Today I broke out the spey again and was rewarded with this native buck. He hit a red & black marabou fly on the swing:

I also had an interesting discovery on the river. This dead deer ,wrapped around a rock, blended in so well I didn't notice it until I was about 15 feet away. I was tracking my fly through the swing and in an instant realized that part of the rock in front of me was actually a deer!

What a great day on the river. Those April natives are tough to beat! Now, just maybe I'll go back to chasing troutskies.... at least until the summers show up in full force!

Yeah, there are still a few dark winters in the rivers, but I checked my fishing log and I was catching bright summers at this time last year. Congrats on the fish!

I have seen deer swimming the rivers many times. I guess they don't always make it! Don't they know they should be wearing life jackets?:jester:

The river I was fishing (which is quite familar to Andy and PTS :-) had quite a few summers in it at this time last year. I was hoping to tie into one of those hot early chrome rockets, but I have not heard many positive reports as of yet. I hope this isnt a harbinger of things to come for the summer, but its still way too early to tell how the run will pan out.
