It seems like whether I'm bobber fishing the trask or back bouncing below Bonneville the guides always catch all the fish on their eggs. What do they use for egg cure. I use Procure and don't even get a bite.

Im sure alot of folks have their secret recipes...I just go with Quik Cure...or Cure Rite (one of them is no longer around....I'm not sure which). I like it better than Pro Cure...doesn't stain the countertops..(gotta stay in GOOD with Ma..ya know)...or doesn't seem to burn the eggs. Looks better longer. Maybe time to share some egg recipe's what do ya think, folks??

This is simple and cheap cure that really works: brown sugar and red jello mix. Use it just like a cure product.

This is a simple but effective cure I use:
brown sugar and red jello mix. Apply it like a commercial cure product. You can add a little borax to help with longevity. Keep them in the ice box. Eggs cured like this will not freeze good, so use them fresh. Hope this will help your catch ratio!

Don't just sit there and watch! Hire one, talk to him, find out how he cures them, fishes them, etc. Then catch some too!
And.... then come tell me how it's done! images/icons/wink.gif

I agree with FishinMission. Go see
Carol and her Cure Rite products over
on third street in Tillamook. She will
even teach you how to cure them. When
ever I don't have any in the fall, her
eggs get me started until the hen arrives.

Use the search engine and just type in "egg cure". There have been a ton of good recipes posted here. You might try Bob's board to, been some good one's over there also.
Good luck and tight lines, Jeff images/icons/grin.gif images/icons/grin.gif

Tman, it's not just the eggs. ITs everything. Remember, 80% of the fish are cuaght by 20% of the fisheman. The few who are allways catching pay close attention to every detail.

I like the jello stuff-raspberry taste the best and when your not hungry you can fish with it too.

You are right, Marty. I screwed up.
I just think it's neat that she guides.
I'm sorry, and I won't do it again.

do like salmonator does, put you eggs and fixins in a bag, then stand on the bow of your boat and shake it over your head and scream like a chicken...

20 mule team borax.....thats it. Dry eggs overnight in papertowel. cut into bait size pieces and roll in the borax. Then let the eggs air dry until they get a light crust on them. Flip them over to the other side and allow them to crust on that side too. Place in a container with clean borax and place in fridge or freeze. You can add lots of different stuff later if you want. Oils, coloring, etc...not usually needed. Cure them asap or you will have nicely cured rotten eggs that are just poor bait. I can fish with the best of them with this cure...because the best of them showed me it!! Start with quality eggs or your wasting your time. Got lots of other cures if you must have them, but this is the simplest and my standard.

I believe the product that Carol in Tillamook makes and uses is called Sure Cure and is available at tackle retailers (though sometimes tough to find.

It is the best I have seen or used. The eggs look great and last longer on the hook. Oh, yeah ... and the 'nooks like 'em, too!

preheat pan to 350 degrees. Lightly sautee' your eggs in a butter and garlic sauce with salt and pepper. Sprinkle onions and green peppers and fold one side of the skein over after a few minutes. A couple of slices of cheddar melted over top and whaaala! Fish love em' images/icons/grin.gif images/icons/rolleyes.gif

Boater, I have no clue where you came up with your idea of how I cure eggs, but every time I picture it I laugh my head off! images/icons/smile.gif

Hey Tman,
Stick with the pro cure as a very reliable chinook cure. Use about 1/2 to 1/3 the recommended amount. Use ProCure Double Red . Chinook love chinook eggs, so break out the big eggs for the big fish. Procure also makes some nice colored borax mixes that can be used with the normal procure. Chinook are not hard to catch on eggs. Chinook like big baits, and you have to let them take the bait well. Luckily, they usually just chomp on the stuff, so the bite is absolutely unmistakable. Good luck to you. If you are fishing floats for chinook use a good sized hunk of lead, 1 foot above the eggs to make sure the bait is down in the face of the chinook. Most bites will come with the float downstream of your position after you mend the line and as far out as you feel comfortable letting the line go. Keep at it and I guarantee you will have many very sore armed encounters.

Fresh Eggs are crucial. As soon as possible cure them and keep as much air off them. My curing process works every time. It takes good Bait and lots of knowledge to catch fish on a regular basis. I am a Bobber fisherman and I say start with a basic cure and then experiment with things like oils hint images/icons/wink.gif that is how I got to my cure.....Jennie how many Nehalem nooks took those eggs I gave you??? images/icons/grin.gif Trying new stuff is half the fun.~John

In the past I've purchased eggs from Carol in Tillamook. They are some of the best I've used. Last Fall I fished with John and his eggs were knocking them dead too. I can hardly wait until Fall Chinook season to try them again.
