I recently watched a video on the Underwater World of Trout – Feeding Lies. If you fish for salmonid in rivers or streams, you need to see this video.

The video is over an hour and consists of underwater views of trout. Where they hold in moving water (there are feeding lies, shelter lies and prime lies) and how they hold their positions.
I have watched the video twice now and each time I learned something new.
For instance, did you know the adipose fin on a trout is used like a “vortex generator” on an aircraft to increase the trout’s swimming efficiency?
Trout “take” twigs, leaves and algae on a regular basis. After “tasting” the object, it is quickly spit out. It makes me wonder why we are so concerned with matching the hatch when nymphing!
