:) Hello everyone!:)
I had the opportunity to make a trip up to Rufus, OR (only the coolest town in the state!) to do some Bass Fishing today with a buddy of mine and my Grandma. We got up a little late, but luckily my secret spot was still open. We fished from about 8:00 until 11:30, but the fishing was SLOW. We could see some VERY, VERY big fish jumping. I couldn't tell what kind they were. A few of them definitely looked like Bass, the others looked like Carp or something. But then I saw one come up and nail a fly that was twitching on top of the water (the weather was beautiful today! Really warm, blue skies, water as flat as glass). I casted my 5'' Senko right where the ripples of that fish surfaced, and almost immediately it was inhaled by a Smallie!:smash: He put up a great fight, but he was a bit lazy, using his weight against me rather than just swim around in circles like they usually do (lol). So I landed him, and was able to get a good picture. He is my first bass of the year, and weighed about 2 pounds.
The fishing was slow today, but I know there were fish in there. The key is presentation, I figured out myself. Hopefully, there will be plenty more days of great bass fishing this year, and I can't wait to share them with you guys. Good Luck!

PS- Are there any good threads on here about how to properly fillet fish? I have a electric fillet knife that works wonders, but the problem is that when my uncle passed away in February of last year, he never taught me how to properly fillet a fish. I know it should be easy, but I'm kind of bad at it. I guess I might just need more practice, but if there is any better explanations that I could read (as there always are on Ifish :) ) That would be amazing. Thanks!

Check out youtube and type fileting or whatever - there are some decent videos that are better than reading descriptions. In any case, youll probably mess up a few before you get it right - I know I did (and still do! I cant filet worth a damn).
(hopefully this doesnt turn into a C&R thread.)

Perfect Drift: I don't know the exact water temp, but I imagine its not over 50 yet. If it was over 50, I would have had more than one fish, I think!

My experince is to not fillet a bass. It is better to skin the fish and deep fry it. The meat will come off the bones very easy and will not cause any trouble. To much good meat is lost in trying to fillet a bass. It's better to not do it. There is a trick in skining a bass and all warm water fish with a pair of pliers. It's the best way to treat this type of fish.

Or you can just scale the fish and clean it with out skining it. This method works good also. With about the same results as skining it. Forget about trying to fillet a warm water fish.

Good Luck;

My experince is to not fillet a bass, just let her go and you'll avoid heavy metal poisoning ;)

What you don't want some of those good poisoning for you? They make you grow up big and unhealthy. LOL I still like to fillet my fish if I am going to keep it and I hardly lose any meat at all. The fish I fillet I can usually see through the skeleton that is left over. But I also let 99% of my fish go.
