I figure that its time to bring this back up to the front of peoples minds.

Once again ODFW has called upon us flyfishermen and women to help them with a population survey and transportation of bass out of davis lake. ODFW are going to be electro shocking and tagging fish in the lake the weeks prior to us going up. They will also be collecting the fish they tagged via electro shocking. However,...they want us to go in and collect as many fish as we can on the weekend to help collect tagged and untagged fish as part of the survey. These fish are to be taken as LIVE prisoners and ODFW is going to transport them to different ponds and lakes that are managed for warm water species.

The reason for this survey without going into alot of detail(pm for more background info if wanted) is that ODFW needs and wants to do something about the bass population in the lake to protect the Native species in the system(redbands, whitefish, and Bulls) this stems mainly from the Bull Trout in the system. The survey is needed as information to help them come up with a plan that they can take to the commission for this. Informally options could include mandatory catch and kill of bass, rotenoning or the lake, doing nothing. This is a project that ODFW locally considers high priority. They really need and want our help.....

As far as the Event itself.....There will be live pens setup in the lake for people to put fish in. from there odfw will transport them into there tanker truck. Last year it really helped that people with boats took time to pick up fish from people that were fishing in tubes/toons for easy transportation.
Last year we did a potluck dinner saturday night. I think that it would be fun to do so again. So if everyone wants to bring a dish for potluck dinner sat night that would be great.

More info to come.

I wanted to bump this up to the top of the page as its only a couple weeks away.

We are going to have a potluck dinner on saturday night at the lavaflow campgrounds. So please bring a dish for the potluck.

I am going to post some more information in the next day or so, fly patterns, techniques, locations of fish, how to keep the fish alive for pickup etc....

I would also like it anybody is going to attent to please let me know on this thread, the forest service is hoping for some kind of a estimate of the number of people camping for there information.

Thank you and if you have any questions please feel free to post here or send me a pm.

Thanks Michael

Fishing should be very good that weekend. The bass are starting to become more active in the shallows. I might be able to attend, I will let you know for sure soon though leadeyedbugger.

i think it would be better for everyone if the bass were just killed, before that trout fishery is completely ruined! its already gone downhill due to some idiot bucket biologist. look at crane praire if you doubt me!

As painfull as it seems, the best bet right now would be to let the bass boys in there with their boats and let em have a tourny. As fun as fly fishing for bass is, and sure you can catch a few, a two day tourny for the gear guys would really put some numbers up. If the idea is to get the fish out of the lake, maybe ask the pro's to help you. I know the give an inch take a mile theory is in action here, but those guys could catch more fish in a weekend than you guys can in a month. They would jump at the one time chance. I'm all about getting bass outa places they don't belong, just seems your over looking an obvious tool out of pride.
