Anyone know where to fish for crappie in Woodland? Also someone mention to me about catfish in Ridgefield. On vacation for a couple of weeks, just want to get out and catch anything without having to drive far. Can't afford to with these ridiculous gas prices these days. Thanks:laugh:

:smash: go out on the bottoms toward the columbia river. All the sloughs in the area contain white crappie as does the columbia river around wing dams or pilings. follow the dike road all the way to the N. end and it dead ends right next to the freeway. The short slough along this end of the road is a popular spot for crappie when they are spawning as is the main slough it connects to. All contain bass, perch ,bullheads and the occasional catfish. The best crappie fishing in the area though is at silver lake in the Castle rock area. Good luck!!:)

:agree: :yeahthat: This is all good info, remember to check the tide book. The closer to I-5 gets super shallow at low tide but high tide can lead to really good fishing. LOTS of bullheads.

Thanks for the info guys.:yay: Can I acces this area by foot or do I need a boat? Just me and the kid would be nice to spend time walking around near the water if the bite is slow.

No you don't need a boat. The dike road runs parallel to the slough.

When I was in grade school, we use to find a lot of turtles around the Woodland dike are....never tried to catch one though. Some were pretty good size.

... LOTS of bullheads.

Are these bullhead/catfish or bullhead/sculpin?

These would be Catfish/Bullhead they can be found in almost every lake even those that nobody fishes for them I caught a 16 inch one out of horseshoe actually once. Also today i fished that canal, It was sow till the pump turned on and almost made like a rip tide in the area around it. So i thorough a senko on there and bam got a 14 inch small mouth. Though that was funny how that little thing turned them on. Another place to catch some fish is keep going down the dike toward the lewis till you get past the nice houses on the river and between that and the construction school or whatever that is there is the backwater and it becomes a pond like thing. there are some bass in there but they put a log in front of the parking along with a sign that says you are subject to a fine to go down there but if you can park elsewhere you can walk in. good luck
