In the fishing tackle business there are lures that catch the fisherman and there are lures that catch fish. First Bite Jigs do both. We're constantly out on the water testing new materials and finding out first hand whether a certain combination is more then a just a great looking product. When we do find something that flat out catches fish then we know we have reached our goal. Our latest jig is the most innovative product we have offered to the public.

Last year Rob Brown of Jack's Snack & Tackle approached me about tying a low water version of a jig with brass barbells instead of a round brass bead and then to add one red salmon bead behind the barbell. I tied the jigs to the exact specifications that Rob wanted and shipped them off. Tying up the jigs for Rob renewed my interest to search for large barbells to be used for Fall Kings. Several years ago I purchased some nice barbells with pearl/black eyes. I tied them up with the same two red salmon bead pattern that we tie our bead jigs with. While these worked great for steelhead for salmon I wanted a barbell that had more weight to get down deep. After ordering some samples from different manufactures, I finally found one that was exactly what I was looking for. These barbells are huge and have striking chartreuse and black pupils. I tied them up on an Owner 3/0 hook which is my standard hook for salmon. One of my favorite color patterns for salmon is what I like to call a shrimp hybrid pattern. It's a combination of palmered shrimp schlappen and pink marabou. The marabou is purposely palmered to overlay the schlappen giving this jig a true life-like look in the water. Fall Kings simply devoured this jig. In all my years of fishing, I've never had a King salmon that would consistently take a jig like this.

When winter steelhead season came along I tied up various shrimp patterns with the new barbells only this time I used heavy wire Owner and Matzuo Sickle jig hooks. These hooks are made for big steelhead and the results were just what I expected. Throughout the winter steelhead season we consistently hooked fish using the new barbell jig with different color patterns. Now that Springer season is here we are excited to offer this same barbell jig that has been proven to not only catch fisherman but more importantly, they flat out catch fish.

Look for our new barbell jigs tied in various color patterns to be available exclusively at First Bite Jigs and Jack's Snack & Tackle.
