I keep hearing a ton about Brownlee. Being in The Tri Cities WA, i'm really not that far away.
Can someone please let me know what the skinny on this fishery is.
Can you go down to the powder river arm and just camp out and throw some bait out and catch catfish? Is it really that easy....and what about the bass are they everywhere? do they catch themselves??? Thats the way some make it sound!
Anyway, could someone let me know some key places one would go and camp and fish if they did NOT have a boat.
Its on my list of places to go this summer, and i'd like to not get skunked when i go there!!!
Thankx I-Fishers.

Brownlee Res. is probably the best all around warmwater fishery in the state, however recent problems with Commercial overfishing, & Dam repairs, + peroidic wather level changes during spanning, have dimminished the fishery considerably, still Brownlee Res. is the first in a series of 3 reservoirs on the Snake River... so it get's the most nutrients, which is why I believe the fishery is so productive, + it is 70 mile's long when full, with plenty of fishing available on both sides of the Reservior. Hard to beat in Oregon, I just hope the state manages Brownlee better, so my Grand Children can enjoy this great resource in the future.:twocents:

yeah you can just camp and throw out there in the powder river arm and get some decent cats. the hole there is about 50 feet and you have to reel fast to get your gear in because of a ledge. The average smallie size ther is 15-18"(was for us any way) i only caught one nice large mouth but wasn't targeting them. Lots of big crappie(some times). If you want big cats camp at the grave yard near farewell bend cats in 12-15# range are caught often. Oh and go in may it is prime time for all species. in the powder river arm carp are spawning and you can get big cats in the flats.
I've always enjoyed it and I think it is that easy for cats and bass. We always stay at Woodhead campground on the Idaho side and fish from a boat. But fishing can be done easily from the bank for cats and bass. The docks do well at night for crappie at Woodhead.

Speaking of the "Grave yard" Every single year without fail I see people that have set up tents inside the fence all around the head stones. Maybe its just me but I see something wrong with that. It is a Grave yard after all and people camping right on top of people's graves is wrong on so many levels. Just "another" group of people that need some type of serious ticket that never happens.

I agree with B-Run . It is toatally wrong to have no respect for the dead . That resivoir is huge and there has to be some sickness in people to camp on a grave .

Where is the graveyard from Farewell Bend?? (No...I don't want to camp there!) I've been up and down that stretch, but have never seen a graveyard. I've always gone downriver a few miles, but maybe not far enough??

Its between spring boat ramp and the old mountain man lodge on the Oregon side. There is a concrete wall facing the lake and a wrought iron fence around 20 or so head stones. All are very old. There are a few trees inside the fence so some wingnuts pitch their tents right inside there for the shade. There outa be a law :smash:

Also those dead people must have one of the best places to be dead in the whole world. Thank God for Brownlee! Some folks have their ashes thrown into it. More power to 'em! What a way to wrap it up!

RC, certainly not going to talk you out of going to Brownlee, but I don't think it is THAT much better than say Lake Wallula (McNary pool). I certainly caught my fair share of bass over out of Hatrock SP on the oregon side. In fact I caught my 1st or 2nd LM there.
But, the catfishing on the Powder Arm of Brownlee is pretty good though.
