Okay so i am in recent years getting into the whole bass n panfish thing and keep telling my dad i should have been born in Oklahoma but also being a Salmon/Sturgeon fisherman and seeing runs gradually decrease over the years i know you have to play the cards you are dealt:frown:. So my question can anyone give me temps for large and smallmouth bass, as well as pans cats, walleyes, what ever i just would like to know what temp of water they actually begin to bite well. any help appreciated thanks!:help:

yeah you can get them to bite in mid 50s but it can still be a little tough. i find at about 60 fish start getting pretty active.

Smallies will start around 47 degrees, get more active at 50, and start to get super active at 55. Largemouth tend to do better as the temps hit the upper 50s into the lower 60s. If the water's in the lower 50s, you can still catch largemouth, it's just more challenging

Right now for smallmouth,Crappie and a few LM. Perch any time, but depth is the important thing there. Cats are just starting. warmmer the better there. JUST my 2 cents worth.

Where can I get a small but sturdy water temperature thermometer? I've found two kinds, small but quite breakable and unbreakable but larger than my reel. There is no comfortable middle ground. There was a bobber and thermometer setup in STS magazine two or three months ago, although I haven't been able to find a good thermometer to make my own. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Thermometer: I got one at GI Joe's in the fly fishing section. It's like the kind you use to take your temperature, but it's got a metal casing.

Another thing about water temps: It varies somewhat from body of water to body of water. Also, smallies in streams will generally bite at lower temperatures.

Check the kitchen utensil section at X mart for various types of thermometers. You should be able to find a battery powered, digital one in a clip-on case for around $10.

In case anyone was wondering (and I'm sure you were all anxiously waiting:laugh:), I found a perfect water temperature thermometer for about four bucks at Bi-Mart.

Thanks again, everybody!
