In June of this year I am going to be taking a group of Rotary exchange students on a river trip, that should include fishing, camping and a bit of splash and giggle. I have done this for the past 12 years on the Dechutes, but with all the restrictions and permits required, we are trying something different. I need some suggestions about what part of the river to use, campsites, put-ins and take-outs and such. Any help out there?

Try Denny Hannah, he has workded the river for years...if he is retired one of his sons might be able to help....

Are you open to other rivers or set on the Umpqua? June weather in the coast mountians is still a gamble. How about a float/camping/fishing trip down the John Day river? There are guides who can conduct theses trips and the weather is usually better east of the mountains in June as you well know. I've also traveled further northeast and drifted the Grande Ronde from Minam to Troy, very scenic, excellent camping and some large trout to be caught.
I don't think either river will let you down in June.

Howdy captn,
I was an outfitter for fifteen years on the Umpqua (and other rivers). I think you'd likely be ok weatherwise in June, but I am not necessarily convinced the Umpqua would be the best place. I need more info to help you. How many people total are there? Are you going in early June, or later? Do you want to fish a day, then raft? Is your goal to progress downstream, and camp fom a boat, or fish/raft and return to camp?? How's your budget (ie. what do you plan to spend per person?) Fill in some details for me, and I'll line you out.
