Hey experts, I'm looking for an 8 wt line with a sink tip. What's good? I've been out of flyfishing for awhile and am jonesing to get back into it. I'm looking at the Cortland 333 #3 line(?) Is that good?

Thanks,
SHS

Teeny makes a few good ones, I'd start there. Rio does as well, and are also worth a serious look.

It depends on what type of water and how deep you need to get how fast. Cortland 333 lines are the cheaper line of Cortland products. I bought a bunch of 333 floaters for my 8 wt at Wally World on closeout for 8 bucks per line. They are now my disposable chum lines for BC trips, and Bass lines for water that is really gunky. I used to be a Cortland only guy, but I have had really bad luck withthe 555 series lines. The 444 series (Lazerlines) are good though.

It really does depend or what and where you're fishing. Sice you have an 8 wt. I would assume you will be fishing for steelhead, salmon, oe BIG trout. A type 3 333 would be OKAY for most summer steelhead situations, but the 444 SL and Lazerlines are easier to cast, cast farther, and will last MUCH longer. If you intend to fish Winter steelhead, you'd be better off with a type 6 fast-sink salmon/steelhead tip line. RIO lines do cast nice, I just have't had mine long enough to vouch for their durabillity.

Spend the money for a Rio Versi tip system. You get everything you need all at once.

Thanks a lot guys. I will be fishing steelies and silvers, summer runs mainly. I'm looking at the 444, I've found one floater on ebay and then am looking for a sink tip for silvers in the fall.

Again, thanks for the comments!!!

Another line to consider that I've heard great things about is the Yancy Line Multi Tip Line System: http://www.streamsideflyshop.com/flylines.htm). If I still fished a single hander for steelhead this is the line I would buy.

Thks. Pretty awesome stuff if it does what they say. Looks like a skagit set up for one handers...pretty good idea if you can spey cast.

From what I know rio vera tips are what you need. For you and a one size fits all, the versa tip is a good option.

FL gator, thanks for the link, been wondering when these set ups will come. Might try it this fall.
