Took a long drift today from Feldheimers to Carver. Several boats and no fish. Boy, has that part of the river changed. I havn't drifted it a long time. Last week was hot for summers but nothing today.

Fished Carver to Riverside Saturday. We had 3 fish on, only got 1 to the boat. A native about 9-10 pounds that never left the water.

I saw Wet Willy out there today, along with about 8 other boats.

Almost got hit by a sled that was anchored, but as we entered the gorge he decided to move up river. I was on the river right with another driftboat on river left. The other driftboat and I, talked about what side we were going to fish down next to each other. As we are backrowing down, the sled pulls his anchor, comes up right over the water I am fishing at about 3 MPH, and comes within 2 feet of hitting my boat. I had to backrow away from him to avoid hitting him. If you can't drive your sled, please learn to bank fish.

Not 1 problem on this river the last 2 months, I can't wait for the Spinger season to be over. Unfortunately it's just getting started on the Clackamas. Just venting because I know a lot of those people everyone is complaining about on the Columbia and Willamette are coming to the Clackamas soon. Anyone no what kind of bumber will fit a 16 foot Willie? I was thinking a F350 rear bumber for the front. images/icons/wink.gif

I saw on the Sandy River report by Artwo, that there are people anchoring in the holes that everyone else is backtrolling through. If you think it is bad on the Sandy, come to the Clackamas. It seems that every hole had someone anchoring in it.

Well somebody must have their sled running again talking like that. images/icons/wink.gif Bring 'em on, you still have to know where to fish. Can't wait to see you guys in a hogline between Carver and Riverside. images/icons/rolleyes.gif Nice to see I was your first post Bernie, I feel honored. Hey don't you have an F350? I need a bumper. images/icons/grin.gif Oh! I almost forgot, pray for sun and low water.

Go jump in the river Bernie.

Driving a sled on a heavily fished river is like driving a car on a busy street. You have to be aware of the others on the river. Bernie your quick defense of the nimrod in the sled doesn't show much common sense on your part. BTW I have caught a lot of Springers on 10#.

Fished from Feldhiemer down to Barton on Saturday. I was getting pretty discouraged, we had not seen a fish all day. Finally the last hole we fished I nailed a nice 8 lb summer chromer. It took a cheater and whole sandshrimp. God I love drift fishing.
I saw about 8 other driftboats and 4 sleds

Spooled is right. I was the boat on his left and I have no idea what that fella in the sled was thinking. Just as I laughed and told spooled I was glad I chose to run the left side, another driftboat anchored up directly below me, stopping my drift way short. Sometimes you just wonder what is going on inside some people's heads. No angry words spoken, but as it gets more crowded, let's all use a little common sense and practice a little river etiquette whether you're moving by jet or oar.

Big Willie and Steelie Steve, I don't think Bernie was defending the sledder. He is a friend of mine, and was just razzing me. He drives his sled responsibly. I have nothing against sledders at all, just against poor boating judgement.
Wet Willy, I didn't want to mention you by name about the sled incident, but thanks for the back up. images/icons/smile.gif

By the way we hooked 2, released 1 native. Thanks for the boat ride Dave images/icons/cool.gif

Hey Big ******'. I have seen you twice on the river. What is your problem? From your previous post, you indicate you can catch fish anywhere anytime. Maybe thats all talk, who knows?

As for having my "entourage" (where did you learn French?), I fish with friends or customers mostly. I am not afraid that they are going to take my spots and put them in the Oregonian. I know for some people it is a contest, for others like me, it is just fun.

As for keeping it in the "family", I am sure you have your "family" and I have mine. By the way, didn't you say you had never fished the Clackamas until recently? I am sure you didn't have to have someone show you around the river with your great ability. images/icons/rolleyes.gif

Sorry if you feel threatened that someone else might catch a fish on the Clackamas. One of your posts said you had 100 fish this year. You don't strike me as a C&R guy. How many does that "special" tag you have hold? images/icons/confused.gif

Relax BP,
With a river like the Clack that is so close to town, you will never have it to yourself. Just knowing where to fish doesn't mean you will catch fish. Put your energy into being a good steward on the water and you will be less likely to have a heart attack. I learned long ago that it is only fishing. If somebody is in a favorite spot I know holds fish, there is always another spot to be discovered. If I don't find another spot that day, there's always another day. It's still enjoyable unless you let yourself get sucked into the "get off my river" mentality. With steelhead at least, if people don't anchor in a hole, you can come in behind and drift the same spot as they just did. I've caught a lot of fish where I wasn't the first through a hole. I'm sure you have too.

WOW! Can't we all just get along with eachother? This might come as a surprise to you ****** but there are not many secret spots left on the Clackamas. I've been fishing it for thirty years and it is a great river convenient to the Portland area. Because of the high traffic with sleds and driftboats we really need to practice patience here and fish with a smile. images/icons/smile.gif images/icons/grin.gif images/icons/cool.gif images/icons/tongue.gif

Rags,
I was in a black Willie Boat. I had a buddy with me (That brought way too many rods so they were sticking out everywhere). What were you driving?

Tanner,
I have a silver Alumaweld. Pull it with a black jeep. My fishing buddy brought five poles and I had three.

Hey Spooled and Big Pimple you two calm down... As for who showed who the river (more than what is being used to date), we know who that was. Quit talking smack about people short holing you if you do it to others...Funny. It depends upon which end of the hole you are on. When someone says that they are a "Man of their Word" I expect to hold them to it. You both release fish so leave it alone. I know that you have both shared spots with each other so as you say keep it in the family. images/icons/grin.gif

STEELIE STEVE AND BIG WILLIE. WHAT A COUPLE OF MAROON'S. I WAS JUST BUZZING OLE SPOOLED "LOST MY ANCHOR IN THE CLACK". YOU TWO GUYS ARE TRIGGER HAPPY DRIFTERS THAT MUST BE FISHIN WITH TWELVE FOOT BANK RODS AND 80LB TOUGH LINE ON POOR LITTLE AND I MEAN LITTLE STEELHEAD. THAT SAID SPOOLED OBVIOUSLY KNEW I WAS JOSHIN ABOUT "WAKING" HIM UP ON THE CLACK. I'VE BEEN WITHOUT MY SLED FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS NOW AND IT'S DRIVING ME CRAZY NOT TO BE IN THE CLACK TRYING FOR THOSE TASTY MORSALS YOU GUYS HAVE LEFT BEHIND! (AT LEAST 2 OR 3 THOUSAND FISH). SO INSTEAD OF SETTING THE HOOK TO FAST ON ME JUST PUT YOUR ROD BACK IN THE HOLDER AND WAIT FOR A BETTER BITE. OR SHOULD I SAY WAIT FOR ANYYYYYYY BITE AT ALL! HEE HEE HEE.
GOOD LUCK "boys" AND KEEP PLUGGIN!

Hey is that you, Fubby "I'll never fish the Clackamas" Stucker? Funny you would read a post about a river you won't fish. images/icons/rolleyes.gif Oh well. Big Pimple if you need to learn another river, Fubby "I'll never bonk a Clackamas steelhead" Stucker images/icons/rolleyes.gif might be a good help. As for short holing, I have done it once (got a good picture too). That time the person I did it to was less than honest about where he was going to be that day. Just wanted to let him know I was not happy. Being a man of your word works both ways. He still hooked (and bonked) his CLACKAMAS RIVER fish.

Peace images/icons/smile.gif
