Went on my first fishing trip of the year today and caught a few fish- this was the biggest at 5-6. I hooked one that was over eight and had it pinned it to a branch but couldn't get to it in time- aaaarrrgggghhhhhhh! I didn't want to pin it- I was trying to get here to dig for deep water but she got caught on some fishing line and a bobber- dang. I got to watch her half out of the water for about 5 seconds- very pretty. I don't get to hook fish like that very often- what a way to start the season- I don't know whether to be stunned or stoked. Here is the 5-6. Sorry to hear about the other monster lost today- let's both go get revenge! Dave

Yeah, Casey, we were on my buddies supercoupe today. Big fish and they have never seen anything that wasn't hanging from a bobber. My buddy hooked and lost one over 8 today, too, plus broke one off on the hookset. He hooked and lost another one way over eight earlier in the week plus a few others that he didn't get a good look at so we were going back in hopes of him getting revenge. He had the same week-old 20lb. trilene XL on so he either couldn't get hooks in them or would break them off. Like Dennis Larsen always says: "there is only one reason for EVER breaking off a bass: fisherman error". Unfortunately, I think between us we educated every big fish- oh well, it's back to the public lakes and high pressure places for me- I am more comfortable there- he he. Dave PS: 6 pounds: sweet! Nice job!

Dave I'm curious....Why are you using mono? You don't show what you got that fish on, but I'm guessing the lure/bait would be heavy enough that you could throw it with 20# braid. I get SO much use out of one (1) knot tied to a snap throwing cranks, or spinny baits, it's amazing. I've caught numerous fish using the same palomar knot, and then get a snag and straighten a 4/0 spinnybait hook with out breaking the line/knot. This is assuming were not fishing gin-clear water here also, 'cause I think that heavy mono you're using in the pic would show up pretty good in clear water...(oops, didn't think, that's flouro? I'm too cheap for that!)

I usualy only fish green bass with braid, while I fish smallies with mono, 10# mostly sometimes 8#. You've always got to retie after two or three good smallies because they seem to abuse the knot so badly when I'm throwing grubs or splitshoting.

Smj: I didn't break mine off- I have only broken off one fish in the last two or three years and it was with 25 lb Maxima (swimbait fish- long story- wasn't the lines fault). The line I am using is 20 lb Trilene XT. I could never skip a jig deep in those bushes with braid- no one can that I know of. When I do use braid (rarely), it's 80 lb power pro. haulin bass: jigs. Jeez Dave. Take it easy. You gotta ease into this stuff, you can't just come out of hibernation and go right into the heavy lifting. Youre going to hurt yourself. You need to start out with 1 and 2 pounders like me.:jester:

That's what I was thinking too. FUNNY! Dave only knows how to do things one way.....BIG!
Love reading the details Dave. Sorry to hear about the lost girl.
Your dinks beat my personal bests. Much for me to learn, keep it coming.
You too Doug! Love see the sterile pics and reading the details on patterns, weather and water conditions.
One day perhaps I could hoist a 6lb dink up and cry about about the lost 8lber too.
