I have been spending most of my time on the columbia, what a great year. Now it is time to start thinking about the willamette. Anybody got any reports on trolling mag wiggle warts on the willamette and if they have been working what colors and what setup have been best. Also what colors of spinners and which size of blade have been the most consistant.

Can't tell you anything about plugs in the Willamette as I don't use them I do however use prawns /spinners and Alvins. Use chartruse rainbow and pink rainbow spinners about size 4 and 5. Brass clam shells and copper work good for me as well. Hope this helps.

Dennis,

Scott Kappes here....Ya'know, not many people use Mag Warts on the Willamette, except for possibly around the Mouth of the Clackamas. Kwikfish behind a diver is more the norm...with prawns being the favorite. As far as spinners go, Gold with green beads seem to be the best combo up near O. City. Some guys use rainbow spinners in the Fred's Marina to Milwaukie Area with some success but still....herring or Prawns still seem to do the job "better" in those areas. Maybe hit B.C. Angling in O. City to see what they recommend as far as spinners go and what is working.

I'm still working on those tapes. Just need to find the time!

Scott

thanks for the info. the reason I brought up the question of the mag warts is that I know first hand of a couple of accomplished springer fisherman one of which is now a guide that last year just absolutely spanked the salmon on mag warts. I have talked with him and he said pirate colors but wouldnt mention many more details. The warts I have found only come in two similar colors to hot shot pirate colors, kind of a green fishscale and a blue one. he also mentioned fishing down towards elk island. the details such as dropper or diver or flat line I dont know, but I am going to figure it out. I will let you all know when I do.

Dennis,
Last year we absolutely killed the Springers on Mag Warts. We back trolled them with jetplaners on a sliding swivel. Use a dropper line on your diver about 2 feet long. The colors that worked best were silver with green and silver with blue.
